Nice catch Jak. I have never seen one of these colorful birds. Thanks for sharing.
Well, SpyderJan, it was a first for me. I looked up and saw a flash of bright red orange fly over. I turned, expecting to see a small dot of color flying away but it landed in a tree just above me and hung around for 10-15 minutes. Flycatchers will often find a launching spot from which to locate prey, fly out, and then return to the launching spot. I was maybe 25-30 feet from its treetop launching spot and it allowed me enough time to walk around in search of views without branches interfering too much with the shots. The fact that it hung around so long without being spooked by me and my equipment was the astonishing part. I noted later that it had been seen by others in the same reserve earlier in the day, so it must have found it to be a good spot. Thanks for taking the time to comment. jak
I'm sure some of you may see these frequently, but it's a first for me. As far as I can tell, it's an "occasional migrant" to this area. Still, it was exciting to see this colorful and active bird in person. jak
Nice catch jak, it would be a new guy on my life list too!

Thanks for viewing and replying. Though I could wish I was closer and at a better angle, I just felt really happy to have seen this bird and to have had such a long time to try to capture a decent image of it. Take care. Jak
