I got a kick out of this, which turned up in my YouTube feed.
Note the title, then the video length.
Frankly, it took me a lot longer than this to learn calculus.......

I dropped Calculus in college because I just couldn't get it. Now I wish I could learn it!

AzPicLady, Having taught Cal for more years than I care to count, I assure you that in dropping it you are not alone. And, yes, I am certain that you CAN learn it!

Well, now you can, in only 10....uh, 22 minutes!!

It is learn-able, though difficult (for most of us anyway).
I never once used calculus after the classes were done - and I've worked as a chemist/scientist for 50 years.

This thread could go on for decades. When in elementary school in the 50's all math was taught by rote.....and was it boring. I hope modern education has improved its methods. Don't get me started on the astronomy class I took in college.

My first Calc class had the textbook that was actually wrong. After struggling with the lecture and the book we asked the professor about it and she looked closely and realized the book was completely wrong. What a pain the semester was. Used the book for target practice and the whole range were laughing when they realized what my target was.

I know the feeling. As a pre-med student taking a very rigorous comparative vertebrate anatomy course, many of us took our dissected lab specimens out into the parking lot....lit them up with lighter fluid and ran over them with our vehicles.

It didn't improve our knowledge or our grades, but it was somehow very satisfying.

Q: What does the Ph.D. in math with a job say to the Ph.D. in math without a job? A: "Paper or plastic?"

I would suggest doing a google search for "Calculus Made Simple" by Silvanus P. Thompson. This book should have been the standard textbook in every class. If you can't find the .pdf file to download, let me know and I'll arrange for you to be able to download it.

Wish it had been available when I was in college - wasted years learning that stuff!

Sure, but you have to watch it at double speed.

I think it says you can “understand” it, not learn it. There is a difference.

I turned 74 yesterday , lived quite a full life and still learning things every day. Learned my trade , how to take/make quite good photographs , build a few houses and things , grow (help to grow) many plants and , you know what? never ever needed algebra that I found very difficult to understand in school, never mind Calculus. My best friend was the first person to talk about it to me during my teenage years but there again he loved math.

I tried to take astronomy class, but it gave me such a headache, all I could see were stars....
