Spent three nights in Stirling on arrival of our trip to Scotland. The city of Stirling is overlooked by the castle high on a hill.
Not sure exactly how old it is, but it predates Columbus' trip to N. American by a few hundred years.

From the internet: "Before the union with England, Stirling Castle was one of the most used of the many Scottish royal residences, very much a palace as well as a fortress. Several Scottish Kings and Queens have been crowned at Stirling, including Mary, Queen of Scots, in 1542, and others were born or died there."

This castle plays prominently role in the Battle of Bannockburn where the Scots, mostly farmers, defeated a English army reportedly three times its size.

We visited the Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Center in Stirling. They have an interactive, audio-visual presentation of the Battle, and history exhibitions relative to the history.
Thanks for commenting. :-)

Didn't get to go in the castle. Parking lot was full when we got there. Car in front of us entered, but we were waved off. So, we went to lunch at "The Birds and Bees" nearby. Good!
