Capture One Pro is $300, or two and a half years of the Adobe subscription. The $300 includes free SERVICE releases. Does that include upgrades? It doesn't look like it because Capture One Pro offers a subscription plan that includes future RELEASES. Their subscription plan is $180 a year which works out to $15 per month. Adobe's photography plan is $10 per month. I don't like the idea of a subscription plan, but I haven't found a better alternative.

Capture One Pro for Sony is $79 and there have been several recent up dates...no cost. Its not an abbreviated version...it has all the features of the $300 version...it only converts ARW files...and processes DNG, tiff and jpg. Yes it has lens profiles too.

I don't mean to come on like a commercial just want to set the record straight.

I have used the Adobe products professionally since the early '90s. Most users never use even a majority of features and capability of Photoshop, so I'm not surprised you can do all you want with many other programs.

As for the subscription v purchase? I own a business that has had up to 4 work stations running the Adobe Creative Suite, and I resisted the subscription for so long. But the cost of upgrades every 18-24 months was actually much more expensive. And if I ever delayed in upgrades, inevitably we would get files from a partner or client that we couldn't work on without the latest version of the software. So I've come around on subscriptions. Though when I stop making money off of these applications my POV will surely change.

Exact same situation with me.

I'm not quite sure why you posted this. You made a decision and moved on. Do you need validation??

I could ask why you looked at it and posted. What do you need?

My monthly subscription is not expensive by any measure but I never did like the idea of renting software. LR and PS together are great programs and more capable than what I need or wanted...although not so much LR but definitely PS.

I have been using Capture One Pro for Sony since switching to the A7R3. It took a while to get to the point where I am able to do all the things I did in LR Classic and PS CC. I'm not suggesting that COP for Sony is better, but it does what I need and much more and its not a subscription.

So today I cancelled without regrets or hard feelings.

I always have been one to upgrade as soon as a new update was available. So one can imagine how much money I was spending when I was using Photoshop, Lightroom, Elements, Illustrator, InDesign, CorelDRAW, Photo-Paint, Paintshop Pro, and several others that I don't remember off the top of my head. Then, in 2012, I was at an Adobe conference and talking with an all-things-Adobe expert. I learned that if I were to take the time to learn Photoshop, it could do everything that i was using all of the other programs to do. So each time I did something for a Client in Illustrator, I took time to do the same thing in Photoshop. Same with InDesign, CorelDRAW, Photo-Paint, Paintshop Pro, etc. Once I realized that I actually could do everything in Photoshop, I found that I didn't need to upgrade all my programs. Saved me a lot of money. Then the subscription service came along and saved me even more money. I'm flush with money so I'm happy and my Clients are happy. If they come in with something, I have enough experience to upgrade and get right with them.

Capture One Pro 11 is top of the line pro software. Its a great alternative to Adobe and performs equally good or better raw conversions.

For Sony users Capture One is a terrific bargain.

I use both. For me, it's not an either or - all three programs do perform extremely well, and nothing makes Sony raw files look as good as C1. But C1 can't do what I need Photoshop for. After all, it's still just a parametric raw processor - and lacks the precision and capability of a raster image editor.

I agree with you about LR. I don’t use it. But, PS works so well on my Mac from my Nikon and with my Canon printer.

I agree. I use CS6 as well. When CC came out I tried the free trial but deleted it because I didn't see anything I couldn't do with CS6 on the new CC product. For newer Nikon raw files that CS6 Camera Raw doesn't recognize, I convert them to tiff with Nikon's free Capture NX-D, then open the tiff files in CS6.

After reloading CS6 the realization hit me why I went to subscription versions in the first place. CS6 text and icons are too small to be useful on a 4K monitor although changing resolutions in win 10 is a work around easily accomplished. I've tried several times and its a no brainer. So far there hasn't been any need for it though.
