This is her "Excurshion time." Fall color tours and "Santa Trains." I'm hoping to catch her on some of these runs.
Interestingly, my wife and I traveled her route that weekend and part of it paralleled US 127. Imaging those traveling along that highway and seeing that sight!
I think you need to be ON one of those excursions, so you can get nice shots from inside, and outside the train.
I'm going to keep my eye on their website and try to score tickets for one of the fall color trips in northern Michigan.
They have a hands on the throttle event in which (for a tidy sum) you can man the throttle in their small yard.
Here's a link to their web page:

Great shot. Did you use a fill flash on this? Where did you meter from, the sky or the engine?
Great shot and good for you for advance planning!

No fill flash. It was morning and camera was facing west. Totally ambient. Metering was handheld incident meter (old school - note the reference to the Mamiya RB67).
Well, this printed very well at 16x20. It (the print) is destined to be matted, framed and hung in the office of the Grants Adminstrator's office at Ferris State University. I'm really proud !!!

Wow, you should be.
You know that I am, and always will be a "person photographer," but doing some of the other shots for commercial work has been fairly lucrative this year. I'm fairly certain that the 3 commercial jobs that I did this year, netted me more than all the senior and family portrait sessions I did. Maybe this is the start of something big.
Hope you and Wendy had a nice Christmas with the kids and grandkids.
Ours was busy, but mostly just more drywall and hanging window coverings, and fun stuff like that.
Bob, I'm glad for you that the commercial jobs are becoming more lucrative. Although; it seems to me that the family and senior portraits often lead to wedding bookings, then new borns... Got to keep the pipeline full.
Had a great time with my Mom (she is back in my life - long story) and my inlaws. Getting together with the kids/grand kids the first weekend in January.
I actually got to catch up on some sleep and some much needed downtime over the holiday. I did pick up an early birthday present over the weekend. New, in the box color head for my MF enlarger. The guy bought it new 20+ years ago and never used it. Only opened it to take photos for Craigslist. We met in the parking lot of his local police department for the exchange. I paid a tenth of it's original cost.
Wow, got a bit away from trains :) I sent you a PM.
