I especially like the diagonal line created by the staircase in the background- works well with the lines of the pose and sets off the subject well. Nice composition. As Cliff alluded to- fine flash usage! Good negative space- makes for a nice 30X40 print in a rustic kinda frame! The hands are fine- the shirt- well it's natural. Sometimes with men, fooling with their hands does not work and results in a stiff unnatural position. Also- young guys are never neatniks!

Thanks for the compliment!
When I saw the light on the stairs, I knew it had potential.
It was gone 30 minutes later.
Didn't think to shoot a BTS shot at this location, but I did PS the light stand leg in the lower right of the frame.

You've pretty well got this spot on Jim. Great lighting, DOF and overall composition. The sitting options works so much better here than, say, standing. And you've got down to the appropriate level for the shot too so no distortions. I really like the lighting on the hair coming from upper stairs as it works wonders for separation and really brings the subject to the fore. Good tonal range with colour too. The main considerations with portraiture/fashion work are always hands/feet, clothes alignment and (particularly with females) hair, especially across the face. All are very easily overlooked in the heat of the moment but none of these are issues here. Overall a damn fine shot of which you and the subject should be well pleased.

Love the high-lights, brings the eye where you want one to look. Good hand position and looks like an excellent shot

Don't knit pick yourself to death. Maybe pick on one (1) thing you want to change and remember it for next time. You are doing fine.
