Loved all your images Carol, very creative. I really enjoyed your different lighting effects. I agree with Linda on #3, made me think of soft curtains too. Was wondering if you pick your lighting or your background first, or just try a number of combinations. Sorry about your remodel, but you'll enjoy it when finished. Bev

Beautiful shots, nice capture of color tones. #2 is my favorite, as I enjoy examining the flower without distractions.

Thank you very much, Bev. My studio consist of a 2' by 4' table in front of a south facing window. The window has blinds but for photography I pull the blinds up and temporarily hang a sheer to soften the natural light. For a black background, I have a pvc stand that I set on the table to support a black fabric background. I normally choose the background first, then experiment with lighting. For these shots I was using a table top studio light on one side and a white reflector on the other side. I also sometimes use a small, dimable LED flashlight to add light where it is needed. To sum it all up, I play a lot and keeping looking at the result until I am happy with it (or give up in frustration). I can spend an afternoon getting two or three decent shots. I enjoy tinkering.

Thank you so much for your explanation. I just purcchased a soft box set up for table top, but I don't have lighting yet except for natural and a couple flashlights. I'm not happy with the light effects yet, so I'm playing around a lot too. Have a great day, thanks again. Bev

Thank you! I enjoy close shots, too. I very much appreciate fine detail and with flowers, the soft blending of color.

These are the lights I use. I got them on Amazon a couple of years ago. I tape one or two thicknesses of paper towel over them when I want less light and they work pretty well. Your soft box would probably do a good job of diffusing lights of this sort. I do have a soft box but seldom use it.

These are varied shots of the same sprig of miniature mums. I just used different crops, backgrounds and processing to vary the look. Little projects like this are keeping me entertained during a kitchen remodel which is anything but entertaining!
