That is my likely solution. I need to educate myself on its use.

I use a DNG converter when I shoot raw with my panasonic lumix FZ300. You cannot edit with it. Nor is it particularly fast. But it works well. After converting the raw images, I download them into my lightroom 5.4. Davidb1879

I have the $10 a month PS subscription and it includes ACR. Silkypix is like Olympus menus, it is the very description of inscrutable. If you have more of an engineering mind, it might be fine, but if you lean more artistic, it's difficult.

I see posts on the internet about how much better other raw converters are, but in the end, it seems like nitpicking to me. I'm not allergic to inspecting prints with a magnifier, but really...

Thank you for that thought. I too, get frustrated pretty quickly with involved menus. My "fuss factor" is pretty low.

If you have Photoshop then you can also edit in Adobe Camera Raw from Bridge, without Photoshop it is view only but it can do cataloging , rating keywords ect. It also has open in "the processing program of your choice" or perhaps Adobes DNG converter. Many post processing programs even old ones support DNG so even with a very new camera you can get it supported in your choice of PP program.

When you install Bridge you get a huge number of camera profiles and lens profiles, these can be added into say Lightroom 5. This I found useful since my k1 saves as DNG lightroom had no settings for the camera and dropping the profiles from Adobe Camera Raw from bridge into Lightroom gave me 6 camera profiles for the K1 and many more lens profiles :)
Culling (and converting) from Bridge is quite worthwhile even if you don't go adobes way.

I am considering purchasing a Panasonic G9 camera and would like opinions on what RAW converter to use. I know that LR and PS will do so but I do not like LR's method of photo organization so would prefer not to use it for RAW conversion. With PS I only know how to display and convert one picture at a time, so it is slow. My primary concern is that I take a lot of pictures. During a trip my wife and I may end up with 10,000 shots. I need something that I can use to quickly display, cull and do some very basic editing on before saving the RAW shot so I can bring it into PS later for final editing. Currently I shoot with Canon and use DPP for that purpose. I use a Windows 10 laptop and desktop for my editing work and for saving my pictures.

Lightroom CLASSIC CC and Photoshop CC 2018... and I use the SilkyPix 4.4.x that came with my GH4.

Learning Lightroom can be confusing, but know that you CAN MAINTAIN your traditional file and folder organization of original files, while using Lightroom as a virtual organizer.

Lr is an image database and a rendering engine. Importing just stores a link to your original file. The catalog is the database of links, proxy images, and the instructions that make all your changes happen when you export files, print files, make a book, or post images to the Internet.

That’s enormously powerful, and WORTH getting used to!
