I am considering purchasing a Panasonic G9 camera and would like opinions on what RAW converter to use. I know that LR and PS will do so but I do not like LR's method of photo organization so would prefer not to use it for RAW conversion. With PS I only know how to display and convert one picture at a time, so it is slow. My primary concern is that I take a lot of pictures. During a trip my wife and I may end up with 10,000 shots. I need something that I can use to quickly display, cull and do some very basic editing on before saving the RAW shot so I can bring it into PS later for final editing. Currently I shoot with Canon and use DPP for that purpose. I use a Windows 10 laptop and desktop for my editing work and for saving my pictures.
Photography Life recommend a product called Raw Viewer (or something similar; my memory isn't the best). You can use it to display and cull images, but I don't think it allows editing.

Thank you. My primary interest is culling, but minor editing would be a bonus. Maybe it is Fast Raw Viewer?? I do currently use that occasionally, but my primary objection is that the pictures are displayed in a very low resolution so hard to judge sharpness of photo. Maybe if I research it there is some setting I can change to increase the displayed resolution.

The camera comes with Silkypix raw editor just as an FYI.
But 10000 shots?

Thank you. I was not aware of that. I will look at that program. Yes, 10,000 easily. My wife and I both shoot (birds) and when we got back last month from Ecuador (a 6 week trip) I had over 10K photos and that was after the first cull that was done during the trip. We probably took 20K shots. From that 10K I will probably end up with 500 "keepers" of which 150-200 will ever see the light of day (or a computer screen) again.

I will check that out. I have never used it before. I have been very happy with DPP, but all my cameras have been Canon previously.
DigiKam to organize and Raw Therapee to process raw files.
I use Fast Stone Image Viewer.
SILKYPIX comes with Panasonic cameras. It is a proprietary first class product that anyone can purchase. However, the version that is gifted with Panasonic cameras will only work on pics taken with a Panasonic camera. It is good for RAW development and for final editing, with loads of clever facilities.
Irfanview (free) will open raw files, but it's not much of a processor. You could open, convert to whatever format you want, and then process in another program. I don't know how Irfanview is able to open any raw file when LR and PS cannot.

Is that a download? I did not get any disc with my G9 camera.

Oh dear! I might have made a mistake. Every Panny G that I have bought came with a dedicated Silkypix disc (G1 through to G5) - known as Silkypix SE.
I was unaware that this had stopped (if it has). I've been thinking about the G9 for myself, but have not seen mention of Panasonic no longer providing either Silkypix or some other RAW converter. My apologies - especially to the OP.

You can use Adobe Bridge to view Panasonic RAW files and it's free.
