It would really be worth the time to watch this video with the sound turned on. I am not saying Apple is the only one guilty of this practice, but I will say They are probably one of the worst offenders brought on because of competition. HP and Dell that I know of because of personal experience are also offenders of this practice. Better watch it; I'm just sayin! It might save You a lot of money for some more GAS.

Cell phones, even $1000 iPhones, are commodities. No manufacturer is interested in making it easy to repair and upgrade, they want to move more boxes through the distribution and retail pipelines. That is the reality.

It's honestly no different than the Samsung clothes washer I had to scrap because cost of repairs was 1/3rd greater than the cost of a replacement unit. The days of that 1970 Sears Coldspot Freezer in your garage are long gone. The one I had lasted 40 years before it quit. Cannot duplicate that today.

This happened to me. The last time (just recently) that Apple came out with a new phone mine quit working. Switched to Samsung.

Never liked or trusted Apple. Too proprietary for me. Without all those snowflakes out there waiting on lines all night to buy their phones, they would be in financial trouble. "Appleheads" as I call them are some of the most loyal and ignorant consumers in the world. I"ll stick with my $300 Android phone and replace it every 3 years.

Apples have WORMS, and Windows have BUGS. We just have to choose if we want worms or bugs.

Sad but true. It's all about greed. Apple made $53 billion in profits last year, but they want to make more. "profit - noun - 1. a financial gain, especially the difference between the amount earned and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something." Profit is basically excess money.

The mass air flow sensor in my Honda Fit went bad, so I bought one from AdvanceAuto for $76. It didn't work. A mechanic told me that for electronic parts, I should buy from the dealer. The Honda part cost me $268, but it works. If I want a replacement key for my Honda Fit, it will cost me about $350. Remember when you go to a hardware store and have a key made for $0.50? Honda no longer makes service manuals available for their cars. I've owned these manuals for every car I've owned since 1962, but if there is no manual available, owners will tend to go to the dealer more often.

I wonder why laws are skewed toward businesses. Yeah, that's a real mystery.

The auto industry pulled this same stunt years ago. Then right to repair laws got passed. Now they (The auto manufacturers) are required to make repair information available. They can charge repairers a fee or subscription for access to the information.

Freezers and automobiles are one thing, but something must be considered regarding high technology items such as computers or cell phones. The ever accelerating rate of change in technology causes them to soon become obsolete, whether they are working or not. Repairing an old Windows XP computer is likely to be an exercise in futility, as it would be far less expensive to buy a new computer than to change out mother boards with faster CPU chips, disk drives, graphics adapters, or adding memory. Tech experts generally agree computers should last anywhere between three to five years before needing to be replaced, even if they are still operational.

Just a thought, in the "repair or replace" consideration.

Take a dive into where most political campaign contributions come from, and who funds and organizes some of the largest Political Action Committees. Oh, and just whose lobbyist are working the halls and offices of Congress.

I guess this is one reason I've never bought Apple. Many years ago I found it cheaper to build my own computer. If something should go wrong all I do is open the door and correct it. Also, I can upgrade it whenever I want to. I do have a notebook purchased many years ago. It was useful to me for a while, but now it is sitting in my closet for many years now, and I'm afraid the whole computer and software are extremely outdated.

Just wait until you buy a self-driving car.
Does it need repairs? Your local garage won't be able to do it because the software will be proprietary.

Good! Greed is a good thing..it drives the free market! I'm sure that you didn't give away half of your paycheck when you worked because it was "too much" :)

That Apple mindset is the reason their gear "just works" (for the most part.) Keeping a tight lid on who can manipulate code, who can provide hardware etc is a good way to make sure that things work and drive down the cost of service.

Oh...you must be referring to folks who choose to buy an Apple product rather than an Android product...for a second there I thought you were insulting folks just because they don't prefer your choice of phone...that would be ignorant and I'm sure that wasn't what you meant.
