Death of a High Plains House and the shut down of a small town on the prairie.

Stunning and evocative of another time and way of life.

I am totally new to the forum and to Photography. So please be nice. I am not sure where I am supposed to post this stuff. I have been following the forum for a while now and I am impressed with the quality of the pictures and the knowledge the members have. I took a little trip out highway 36 to the high plains in Colorado on a mission to capture a story of some small towns and sites along that highway. I am only a beginner and am seeking input to improve my skills. I have a D500 and learning to use it. I had a GoPro hero 3 prior, so you know where I am coming from. I pretty much use MAC Photos for editing and building slideshows. I posted my slideshow on Youtube. I have some other posting from my Go pro and point and shoot days (not that great) Don't waste your time. Would like your feedback on the following link and what you think of the BW to color fade. Tell me how to improve my skills. only 5min in length. Rented Tamron 70-200 and Sigma 16-35

Well done! I like the B&W portion of the video the best.
Very nice.
"Links" can be tricky. If you post in the Main section with a link, it will get moved to Links. If that link is posted later in the thread, it will probably be okay.

Thank You, Being a snot-nosed amateur at 75yrs old, I am humbled by the positive responses. I must be doing OK
Give that snotty nose a wipe and go take some more photos!.....
Nice job. Thanks for posting, enjoyed it.
This is very good work! The music selection was ideal in setting the melancholy tone of the video and the image sequencing was spot on in my opinion (reminiscent of Ken Burns). The de-saturation to B&W sequences helped to amplify the forlorn feeling one gets when seeing the decline of rural towns and life. The concept and execution was very well done in my opinion!
In regard to the de-saturation, though, if you could achieve that seamlessly during the zooming, the effect would be much more dramatic. Alternatively, if your video software doesn’t do the conversion dynamically, doing the dissolve into the B&W before or after the zooming might be a solution.
Wonderful video!

I had to set back in My chair with My arms folded. Very nice work, loved the music. Sad though. I'll be 76 in Jan. Wish I had Your talent. Wonder how many memories were in that old house? Very sad. As far as Your work goes, IF IT NEEDS ANY IMPROVEMENT, I certainly wouldn't know. I guess "stanmac" said it all. I look forward to seeing more of Your work.
Very good video Tom, sad to see a town disappear off the face of the earth.

Thank you. I am still a rookie and will figure this out one of these days. May take this old guy a little time to figure it all out.

LOL Thank You. I may venture to Dearfield Colorado next. I understand a lot of history exists there.
Keep doing what you are doing - I really liked this presentation.

Stan, Thank You for taking the time to give me feedback on my slideshow. It is very much appreciated. I am certainly not very skilled at this and used Mac Photos to do the edits and build the slideshow. I do know what you are telling me about zooming and the dissolve timing. I used to do some movies using GoPro and FLIP camera (remember those). I no longer have that software and will have to look into something new or look at using iMovie to build the slideshow. Thanks again for the advice.

Thank you, Walter. It is sad that small town America is going away. When I was a kid, spent summers with my cousin in a small town Graymont IL. No indoor plumbing. The town consisted of Barbershop, General store, Beauty shop, Feed store. My Uncle was the barber and knew everyone in town. That lifestyle was fun at the time but very few people will ever experience it.

Thank you, Earnest. So sad to see the "Mayberries" of America go away.
