Death of a High Plains House and the shut down of a small town on the prairie.
I am totally new to the forum and to Photography. So please be nice. I am not sure where I am supposed to post this stuff. I have been following the forum for a while now and I am impressed with the quality of the pictures and the knowledge the members have. I took a little trip out highway 36 to the high plains in Colorado on a mission to capture a story of some small towns and sites along that highway. I am only a beginner and am seeking input to improve my skills. I have a D500 and learning to use it. I had a GoPro hero 3 prior, so you know where I am coming from. I pretty much use MAC Photos for editing and building slideshows. I posted my slideshow on Youtube. I have some other posting from my Go pro and point and shoot days (not that great) Don't waste your time. Would like your feedback on the following link and what you think of the BW to color fade. Tell me how to improve my skills. only 5min in length. Rented Tamron 70-200 and Sigma 16-35

Very nice alltoptom. Enjoyed the B&W of the old buildings. Don't know if you would improve upon them if you used sepia. Mahalo for sharing.

I usually opt for color, but the B&W adds drama to the old house. If it could only talk.

Especially enjoyed the old house and your different perspective and detail shots.
Liked the images and the music was a good choice. Nice work. I lived near there in Kiowa during the late 80's. Love the high Plains and drifted there a lot almost every weekend.
Very sad story. Not uncommon, but was there someone living in that town? There was one shot of an American Flag that looked pretty new. Just curious. djt
Thank you I will try that. If I can figure it out
The town is occupied, but businesses were all closed except for the hardware store and grain elevator.
I have lived in Colorado since 1985. This was my first venture to the high plains. I usually take the interstate and not the back roads. I guess highway 36 was like 66 in its day. Lots of shuttered hotels and restaurants. This is tornado alley, it is a wonder this house is still standing.

I tried to use the color shift from B&W to color in order to emulate the house's struggle to survive.
Very nicely done. You obviously have an "eye" for photography and composition. Keep at it.
