We get 6-8 a day that make it through my defenses. We don't answer the 'unavailable' calls but it's still annoying to listen to the ringing. Esp during my afternoon siesta.

Ya....right. Like the federal and state, "Do not call registry?" Been on those for years and still get plenty unsolicited calls.

If you have Verizon land line service when a call is in progress, or ringing, enter *60 and it will be blocked. *80 will unblock a blocked number. When a blocked number calls the phone will ring once and "Line In Use" should show up on the caller ID. I use this feature most every day with good results. Of course they are getting smarter now and spoof calls using local area codes and names of businesses, local & nationally known. The do not call registry to me is as useful as a screen door on a submarine. ;~)

Now if you have a cell phone with Android software, after a robo call go to phone, resents, select the number, details, touch the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the screen, touch "Block Nmber", touch "Block" in pop up and presto it is blocked. No charge for this.

Just saw an add fo a model CPR V5000 Robocall phone call blocker ($79.95) that has 5000 pre-loaded known scam, canvassing, solicitation, etc phone #s plus room for an input of another 1500. It got my attention due to the number of these types of calls we get throughout the day. I signed up some time ago with that free Norobo program but never saw one instance of it blocking a number/call.
Wondering if anyone here has any knowledge of or experience with this device. I am naturally sceptical of such gadgets. The scammers appear to be way ahead of defense measures. I checked on eBay and one for sale is listed as “pre-owned”. Makes me suspicious, considering it is supposed to be a new model.

I paid $100 for mine almost three years ago, and it was the best $100 I ever spent. I've posted about it here before. Yes, it actually works. Of course, it can't block numbers it doesn't know, but if a telemarketer gets through, I press the big, red BLOCK button, and that number will be blocked in the future.

I haven't looked into this, but because I have both wired and wireless phones in my house, I will often hear the phone ring just once. The call blocker let it ring before realizing it's a telemarketer. I know there's a way to avoid that, but it's no big deal, and I like knowing that an annoying caller didn't get through.

The company is very good with support if you have questions or problems. Basically, you just plug it in and it does its job.

The phone companies are fully aware of how these calls can be stopped and do nothing. It will be another product to sell to us. For many years they have been complicit in selling us. Many years.

True, unfortunately.

Same blocking possible with the iPhone. They always seem to use a different number on the next call. I like to keep them talking when they call.....keeps them from bothering someone else in the meantime. My last robocall was entirely in Spanish. Had no clue what was being said.

I've seen them spoof my own number too!

Like so many of you, I've tried so many ways to stop Spam calls, especially the Robo calls. Registered number protection by our state does not work...any more. Nomorobo worked for a few months, then no further help. We even had a Robocall with Wells Fargo on the screen, and a number using our own area code. Answered it twice, hear a voice from a third country. I asked them to remove our number, they hung up. Second time, I didn't even get to say "Please remo.." and a hang up.

After much search, I found the product DaveO's link goes to, the CPR Call Blocker. It is the BEST purchase we've made. If we don't recognize the name on the caller ID, we press the CALL BLOCKER button and the call will never get through again. [Should you accidentally hit the big red "Block Now" button, you can also delete it from being blocked in the future.] And the Wells Fargo Robo call (and it truly is NOT Wells Fargo), when they still got through, I sent e-mails to the Customer Support of CPR Call Blocker, and they gave me codes to add to block Wells Fargo. The company is located in the UK, so there is a 6 hour difference, so if you send them an e-mail for help in the evening, don't expect a quick reply for they are well asleep. But you will get a great response during their working hours. What have been the results for us? I've added 46 Call Blocker numbers, and the device works very well. And for the truly "fake Wells Fargo" Robocaller? They continue to call....every day of the week...and twice every day. Our phone rings once, and that's it. I can live with that. The other 45? The phone doesn't even ring. I cannot recommend CPR Call Blocker enough. The best device I've every purchased for the Robo calls.

I will also, depending on my mode at the moment, or time available, play along with them, or if a recorded message just lay the phone down until they hang up. The BIG NO NO is when a call comes in and the caller says, I'm so & so calling on a recorded line, can you hear me OK? NEVER, EVER say YES. Your recorded reply can be used for fraudulent purposes. I just let the call continue until they hang up, or hang up immediately.

Same here. Offered by Comcast/Xfinity as part of their phone service. Works really well.

We never answer phone calls unless it's a known number with Caller ID! If the caller wants us there is a recorder for them to put on a message.

Now they are spoofing legitimate telephone numbers more and more. So therefore this device would not be worth the price. I would double check nomorobo settings just to make sure you have it set up correctly.

I actually had one call come in ostensibly from my own cellphone, which was in my pocket at the time!

On our cell phones they (robo callers) are using local area code and numbers very close to the numbers of calls that we would normally accept, have to look at the phone every time prior to answering - very annoying, but we check and choose. On home phone there is an answering machine with robot voice (very fitting me thinks) and that culls about 99%. We are not phone slaves (wife and I) and do not answer numbers we don't know, or are not interested in, and if they don't leave a message, I consider them to be "not legitimate". Between voicemail and the home phone answering machine, their success rate is nearly zilch. They only succeed with my wife when she doesn't have her glasses, me, I can see the little numbers just fine.

This won't work in our 45 year old house. Also, our phone service doesn't carry it. Go figure.
