Buddy, I've seen some of your posts which were pretty nasty and sarcastic, as well. This is why you have been on my "Ignore List" for quite sometime and you will remain there, in the corner. B^)

Who would care? I could care less. Initially, I felt sympathetic towards you when you talked about losing your wife. I even sent you a pm. But once your true colors came out, we can now see who you really are. Just imagine if we treated you in the beginning the way you treat others.

Yes, you were very kind by sending me a pm regarding my loss. Thank you once again for that. Cheers.

For it's worth, I took you off the ignore list. I read you wrong. Have fun shooting.

And I would not have known this if you didn’t post this.
Thanks!
I’ll check the D810 manual again.

When I got my D7100 and found that feature, I was thrilled. I do shoot crooked horizon lines often, without that guide, and even with it...I check them when doing PP, but now I have less fixing to do.

No excuse? Who cares what someone else does. Worry about your own issues. Do you ever write a positive post?

I guess suggesting a way to easily correct the alignment is considered negative in your troll world.

Sad.

I agree about the negative effect of slanted horizons. But a concomitant issue is what happens when shooting, for example, a lake shore that recedes to the left or right. This happened to me several times and if I correct it in editing. then the fir and spruce trees lean from the normal vertical. Sometimes nature doesn't present us with nice right angle points of view. I finally decided that it was better to have the trees truly vertical and hope viewers understand the problem of an angled shore line. The particular shot that brings this up is Beartooth Lake in Wyoming. I made sure the trees were normally vertical and just let the shore line be what it was. That said, I did have ti find trees in groves as isolated trees do get bent by some the pretty fierce winds that can hit that area.

I don't know if this helps anyone or not: just my experience.
I agree about the negative effect of slanted horiz... (show quote)

In the case of a composition that is not a parallel to the horizon, I would align the shot based on making the trees vertical as well. Some times the horizon does slope. Mountains, the gentle rise of a hill, etc... But things like an ocean horizon sort of need to horizontal.

Many Nikons have a Viewfinder Virtual Horizon. I have FN 1 set to turn it on and off.

Depending on the camera it can be one arrow at the bottom and one on the right. On my D4s the focus point are used.

I never would have found it except I like watching Steve Perry videos.

The virtual horizon is much more effective and usable is used in Live View on the rear screen. In LV, click on the Info button until it appears on the rear screen.

The virtual horizon on both my Lumix Zs60 and Pentax K-50 are usually left on most of the time. It is a green line so not very distracting. I find it better to use the viewfinder. Don't use live view very much except to magnify the image to see if it is in focus by magnification. Have to hold the camera in a not stable way to see the monitor.
