I will be leaving out of ChristChurch New Zealand. This first trip will be about 8 weeks or so. I will go back in October.

When I went in 2015, I took a 6D with 3 lenses, a 100-400, 16-35, and 24-105. On land I used the 16-35 the most, and in the Zodiac rides I used the 100-400 the most. I was worried about the weight also, so I took a photo vest with big pockets to wear on the plane, they weighed my bags, but they didn't weigh me, I had lenses in my pockets. Its a bucket list trip, have a great time.

I was told years ago to bring one that doesn't have a battery in it. It will freeze. At the time they suggested bringing a mimiya 2x3 camera because there was no battery in it.

Carry extra batteries in your inside pockets to keep them warm. I wore 2 parkas, the camera stayed strap around my neck inside the one till I was ready to shoot. This kept me and the camera warmer.

Fabulous, mine was a month with 48 on a Russian ice breaker and the most amazing trip I have ever done. Be prepared for very rough seas. You must be going in mid Jan through mid March, the only time the seas can be navigated in that area because of ice. Look for Arneaux beak whales, very rare to see. I am one of the few that saw them and with pic of the beak out of the water.
Take 2 bodies and about 4 batteries. An 18-250 and several back up lens. I took a small camera too for times too tough hiking to handle the big one. I only ever needed 3 batteries but was glad to have the spare.
Want more info, let me know, we can private message. I am so excited for you.
Aloha
