One question where you shooting through glass? If you are next time just put your lense right on the glass it will take out any glare, reflections and you can use your flash.

I messed with you image a little in Photoshop and Camera Raw let me know what you think.
Most of my images are shot through REALLY thick double glazing and I am laying on my bed which MUST put the camera about 4 metres away from that glass.

Our glazing is certainly not filthy, but it is also not crystal clear and in my experience the camera is focussing on the target and not the glazing, the problem would only arise if the target were close to the glass and then the 'muck' would or could be an issue :)

As I said in my previous post, I think the OP got excellent results CONSIDERING the lighting conditions they were shooting under.

I have NEVER put my camera up against any type of glazing so have NO idea what the results would look like and your idea regarding flash appeals to my curiosity. Having the flash fire so close to that very thick glass makes me wonder what effects the glazing would have regarding reflections or even refractions and MOST important, what effect would it have on 'dozing beauty?' It would be so, so wrong for anyone to startle these wild animals that are confined in those smallish areas.

If you want to see what my attempts look like ...

BUT...

My camera settings were all far more 'user friendly' than the OP's and rather than 'Screw Up' .. I think they have done very well to have achieved what they did, plus folks have also done very well in 'tweaking' that image  :-)

I struggle with photoshop but after looking at a picture of what an SL should look like color wise I used the skin tone ( fur /skin?)tool to edit this. Apologies if its not what you are looking for but thanks for the opportunity to practise

N72,

I can always count on you & MT to come through. You kept the eye which is what I was trying to capture. Given the lens, no tripod, slow shutter speed and high ISO...Excellent! Thanks!!! This is probably going to be the one that I print for my wall. Hope you don't mind.

Here is a re-tweak. On my monitor, I see a slight pink cast to highlights on first attempt. Is this one better?

Let me re-tweak. On my monitor, I see a slight pink cast to highlights.

N72,

No problem.

BTW, I use a Spyder 2 to calibrate my machines & it works pretty well.

Bragging rights: UPS stopped by yesterday & delivered my Sony RX100. You can't belive how clean the images are! ~20MP on a ~15.3mm sensor with a Carl Zeiss lens. I'm headed out now to run some errands and see what I can shoot. If I get anything worthwhile, I'll post later tonight.
