On my SX50 the DISP button by the lower right corner of the LCD toggles between viewfinder and LCD, each with and without grid lines. So it cycles through 4 settings. If the LCD is showing the last picture taken, it is stuck in the playback mode. If so, press the playback button, wait a moment. If this does not switch to live view, the camera may be stuck and need service.
