These cuties waited patiently. I still screwed up (sorta).

They came out of nowhere, then assumed this kooky pose. I wasn't ready so a little soft focus and wrong settings. But somehow I got the shot.
I'm getting so sloppy I'm going to start shooting in Auto soon.
Thanks

Fun! Aside from focus, why do you say "wrong" settings? If you'd increased your dof you'd have had an even higher ISO or slower shutter speed. The exposure looks good to me. And, though you might be writing tongue in cheek, I bet auto would have been all wrong

I forgot to mention the myriad hoots, grunts, unmanly squeals and guttural groans and hollers I employed to keep their attention. Enough to embarrass any mature senior citizen. I was just obnoxious enough to interrupt their grazing for the quick shot.
Thanks

Thanks Linda. It's nice to hear you say that but I didn't need a shutter speed of 640 and I would have, given an extra one second, have opened up to maybe f/3.5 or even f2.8. I was handholding my 70-200 2.8 with the foot collar still attached so it was bit ungainly. So mayhap a speed of 3-400 would have given me a little more room. Given that the shot had so much potential, I am not thrilled with almost totally losing the background which I think might have produced a beautiful bokeh (which I always shoot for if I can). With the darker background and the subjects in direct sunlight, it almost comes off as a flash.
And yes, you are perceptive. I have never shot in any other mode than manual. My iPhone does my "auto" work for me.
Thanks for your comments, I'm a loyal follower of your posts.

a very nice shot of the elusive "PushMePullYou".
Not often captured by the camera.
Nice work.

If I had known how rare they/it were/was, I would have paid more attention to what I was doing.
Thanks for the info (wish I'd thought of that).

If you start shooting in Auto you'll always be sloppy. This isn't bad at all.
