After getting a Panasonic LX100 I was shocked to find my trusty photoshop CS5
would not recognise its raw files ... grrr

I bought a version of CS6 on line ( a download ) ..
Installed it on my PC ... ALL Hell Broke loose !!

computer freezing .. But finally managed to get in in .
In so doing it Automatically Deleted my CS5 ( so no back up ) !

I now have CS6 But it still wont Recognise Lumix Files !
Apart from that .. The ' Browse n Bridge function ' does not work on it !

So , How can I get it work for Lumix Raw ?
And very important ..How do I get the bridge browse to work ( I use this a lot )..

Am using Windows 7 ..

I tried Gimp .. but didnt like it .

Is it worth trying to get another CS6 ? It seems they are mostly down load versions
instead of a CD ..

Photoshop only Rent Latest Version .. Pay monthly ! I dont want that ..

What a dilemma I wish I never got the LX100 and stuck to Canon

I've never had a new version delete an old version. CS6 dates from 2012, and the camera is from 2014. Have you gotten updates for PS? My CS6 can read raw files from Sony A6000 and Nikon D750. I don't know if phone support will do you any good with CS6. I wouldn't get another copy of the program. Try to get help from Adobe first.

There are lots of reasonably-priced software alternatives to PS.

Bridge can be downloaded without having to go into the subscription route - see the links: https://prodesigntools.com/free-adobe-bridge-cc.html

I believe that "Browse in Bridge" from the file menu of Photoshop will not work with new installations of PS, so the answer is to install Bridge, then "pin to taskbar".

CS6 is not going to recognize RAW files with a new model camera. I had the same problem when I first got the 5Dmk4. Even after I got CC it was about a month before Adobe updated the program where I could get RAW. A friend just got a 6D mk II and she cannot use RAW with her CS6. So if you had stuck with Canon and got a new model you would have the same problem. Even now, Windows 10 does not have a CodeC to view RAW 5D mk 4 files with windows 10 viewer. Had to download a separate viewer for RAW.

If you spring for CC the program will be updated on a regular basis and you won't have this problem. Trying different versions of CS6 is not going to help. Your camera is just not there, and I don't think Adobe is going to give you an update unless you go to CC.

This is very old software, and Windows 7 is no longer fully supported anyway. You must have a 32 bit system, and, I would guess, little surplus memory capacity. The latest versions (standalone or subscription) of the Adobe products may not run on your machine. This may also be a problem with some of the alternatives suggested by Jerry.

I agree with linary that Bridge is probably the best short term solution, but sooner or later you're going to have to upgrade your computer system.

Best of luck...

Andy

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the FREE Adobe DNG Converter yet. Adobe provides it FREE for people who buy new cameras and want to use old software on old computers like CS5 on Windows 7. Without charge, Adobe keeps it as current as the subscription versions of their software.

Would you like help finding it, figuring it out or using it?

BTW, the Lumix LX100 I have works very well with the current cloud subscription versions of Lightroom Classic CC, Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC and Bridge. With the Lumix photo app on your can take a picture, check it, adjust it and have it already on your computer when you get to your desk.

You have my sympathy! Unfortunately not my help, as I don't use Photoshop.
However, maybe some advice for the next time you decide to upgrade software:
Make sure it is compatible with the hardware you already have.
Or the other way around: If you're getting new hardware, and are not prepared to get new software as well, make sure the files from the new hardware can be opened with your old software.
This might help:

On this last site, also scroll down to nearly the bottom and check the links under "More like this"
(I didn't, but you might find more info there).

Is $10 a month really too much to ask for having the latest versions of Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, and Adobe Bridge? You must be taking your photography seriously otherwise you would probably not be shooting RAW. I have never regretted my Adobe Photographer's subscription.

If you want to keep using PS CS5 you can do the RAW to DNG converter. I think upgrading to CS6 would put you in pretty much the same boat. You can also opt to convert the RAW to TIFF using Panasonic software then edit further with CS5 or CS6. Or of course you can pay $10 a month and use CC.

Why don't you get Affinity Photo. One time fee of $50 and they send updates. Hundreds of instructional videos. I have bee using it for about 8 months and no issues.

One of the problems this solution includes is scripts written to run in PS probably won't in Affinity. After one spends years developing a pattern of working with one application, changing can cause more issues than it solves. There are some tweaks one can do to older versions of PS that can alleviate some issues, but one needs to be pretty software savvy to do so. My approach is I purchased the software I can do what I want with it. I just can't compete with Adobe by selling any mods. Yes, I have read the licensing agreement. However, I view it the same a purchasing an enlarger. If I can make a component that makes using the enlarger better or easier, why not? So, renting the application presents the risk that any personal mods I create may be stomped on by the next revision that is released and installed automatically.

Someone should write an application that reads RAW files and then feeds that output directly to ACR. That would be a pretty good product. Unfortunately, I'm busy modifying cameras at the moment in quest of increasing pixel output.
