Elements 10 does give you a proper layers function which once you start using you'll wonder how you ever got by without it.

I have elements 7 and bought Elements 10 when it was on sale for cheap. I like elements 7 better.
Keeping both though, in case I have time to study the fine points of both...who knows that I might change my mind, but for now Elements 7 does everything that I need.

I think you can get a 30 day free trial of upgrades, so you can see whether you want to upgrade or not.

Yes, like francesca says, try the 30 day trial of PSE10. I don't know about PSE7 - does it do layering? If not, then PSE10 would be a great upgrade. You have to ask one other question first. Will your computer support new software. I don't know how many times I upgraded my software and found out that my operating system or computer was too outdated to run the new software effeciently. So a $69 software upgrade could cost you more that you think if you wind up needing to upgrade hardware too. Just a thought.

There still many of us who have to squeek on both - a P&S or a Bridge camera can be and is the limit for lots of us. This is why the "Smart" people at Adobe market Elements programs.

I went from Elements 8 to 10 a few months ago and I subscribe to the elements magazine. Version 10 has "shortcuts" where the program guides you through a process. The magazine subscription came with a CD of videos to help or train you in operating the version 10 and introducing you to features you probably would never guess were in that software. For the small dollars, it was a good purchase and certainly a resource I use often for adjustments and add-ins. Can't understand when people spend thousands of dollars on hardware (camera, lens etc) yet squeak a little to purchase software.

Try the 30 day FREE trial before you buy anything. And see if you can use it.

Elements 10 is much better than 7. I have been using PSE 10 for several months, and I like it. Go for it.....you will be glad you did.

Hi, Thank you all for your intelligent and insightful comments. I am not really concerned about the cost but as an "older" technology user I was hesitant to start a new learning process. I am going to order the trial #10 and see how it works. Thanks again to all of you on this great site. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I had Elements 6 and moved up to 10 primarily so I could do this to pics; called Out Of Bounds. It could be done w/ other versions but not as easily as on 10.

The tech told me (was not aware of this) that no matter how many megs you camera shoots the PSE 7 would only give you quality of a 10 meg camera. In order to get the full max you have to go to Photoshop (CS) level; dont know if this was just sales bunk or not.

What nonsense. Whoever told you that was full of crap. I hate it when 'experts' tell people stuff like that

"Full of CRAP?" Funny the only picture I see attached to this thread is full of "CARP"---YES, and I still prefer Picasa espcially since it contains NO GIMMIMCKS!!!!!!!!!
