Hi, I am not a pro shooter and I've been using photoshop elements 7 for awhile. It seems to do all I need but is there a good reason why I need, or should, upgrade? Thanks, Mike

Don't know the limitations on upgrade for photoshop elements but if the program you are using does everything that you want why upgrade. If you can upgrade to elements 10 for a reasonable price then go for it. I use CS5 and understand from others that elements 10 does 90% of what CS5 does.. I know that elements 10 does have content aware which is a great feature

General consensus indicates that Elements 11 will be released within the next couple of months. Watch for reduced prices on Elements 9 or 10 in the near future.

When Adobe introduced pse7, it was state-of-the-art. Then they brought out 8, 9, and 10. There must be quite a bit you can do (easier) with 10 that you can't do with 7. And now we can look forward to upgrading again. $$ :-D

You don't need to upgrade unless and until your each the limits of what you can do.
Once you want to do more then the program allows you to get the newer version.

I have elements 7 and bought Elements 10 when it was on sale for cheap. I like elements 7 better.
Keeping both though, in case I have time to study the fine points of both...who knows that I might change my mind, but for now Elements 7 does everything that I need.

I think you can get a 30 day free trial of upgrades, so you can see whether you want to upgrade or not.

I bought from Amazon.com and the tutorials on you tube work great. I have gotten so tired of trial upgrades with everyone trying to upsale me on new and better (SUPPOSEDLY) PROGRAMS. So I am sticking to one till someone shows me better.

I went from Elements 8 to 10 a few months ago and I subscribe to the elements magazine. Version 10 has "shortcuts" where the program guides you through a process. The magazine subscription came with a CD of videos to help or train you in operating the version 10 and introducing you to features you probably would never guess were in that software. For the small dollars, it was a good purchase and certainly a resource I use often for adjustments and add-ins. Can't understand when people spend thousands of dollars on hardware (camera, lens etc) yet squeak a little to purchase software.

I too have been using PSE 7 for sometime now and have been pleased. Have given strong consideration recently to an upgrade as it appears some of the PSE programs are somewhat outdated so I called Adobe to see what level of PSE is generally recommended. The tech told me (was not aware of this) that no matter how many megs you camera shoots the PSE 7 would only give you quality of a 10 meg camera. In order to get the full max you have to go to Photoshop (CS) level; dont know if this was just sales bunk or not.
Anyone run into this or help clear the air?

Help

PSE7 may very well have that limit because at the time it came out that was the limit on most cameras. PSE10 works with the new camera limits. All the features of 7 have been improved in ver. 10 and many features have been added. Upgrading from 7 to 10 is well worth the money if you take the time to learn the program.

If it does everything you want or need to do why would you spend the money to upgrade? Take your wife or girlfriend out to dinner instead. (One or the other I wouldn't take both together.)

I upgraded to Elements 10 when I bought my current laptop which has WIN7; I was told Elements 7 was not compatible with WIN7. I, too, was happy with Elements 7 - but like Elements 10 even better!
