Beautiful series. Light is so important to make good photos.

Wonderful shots Jim. I especially like #3. I love it when there are times (especially coming up with the fall foliage) I am on the side of a road with my camera on a tripod. People will inevitably stop to take pictures. Sometimes a brave soul will ask me what I am doing just standing there doing nothing. And then we get into a discussion about "waiting for the light." Then the sun comes out behind the clouds and lights up the mountains and it's time to pull the trigger. It's nice to have the patience to be able to, "wait for the light." You do it well, my friend.

Thanks, Neil. Sometimes, when you (or I, or anybody) 'wait for the light,' the light that was waited for doesn't materialize. That was the case here. What I wanted, and what I was waiting for as I wandered around along the canyon's rim looking for compositions, was for the light to clear the distant rim, leaving it in shade, and leaving the fins and folds of the 'Behind The Rocks' area lit below the dark and brooding LaSals. A heavy cloudbank scudded in on the western horizon a couple of minutes before that could've occurred, so what I hoped I might catch simply didn't happen. Did have a nice conversation with a young-ish couple (and their dog) who happened by, though, and had stopped to hike around a little and enjoy the scene like me.

And a big 'thank you' to others who've stopped and spent a minute or two taking a look and/or commenting. Grateful for that....

Stepping back in time slightly, all the way back to last Friday.

Several days I posted some shots, one of which was what I considered 'the better' of a number of views I'd shot looking into Long Canyon. Wouldn't ordinarily do this, but hey, why not? Attached are four additional 'views' of essentially the same place, short distances from one to the next. I'm posting them for the purpose of showing how clouds and light and sky and rock can change appreciably in the space --quite literally-- of twenty minutes. Nothing anybody hasn't seen elsewhere, or realized for themselves, of course, but thought some might like to see what happens in canyon country on a windy, cloudy, occasionally rainy evening.

Beautiful photo narrative series; well framed, clear and crisp.
