Not sure how good the cameras will be or if they will be good for me, but how can you fault the marketing when they already have preorders apparently exceeding the initial 40,000 units.

The Df is a cool camera, but it is a niche product, not what main stream is looking for.

Nikon is not failing with these cameras. Nikon and Canon have multiple camera systems for sale. They do not want to kill sales of their DSLR cameras by offering new Mirrorless camera with all the same features as their other systems. Sony, Panasonic, Fuji and other manufacturers only produce mirrorless cameras and do no compete in the DSLR market. Eventually, Nikon and Canon will evolve to mirrorless when sales of their DSLR cameras fall. They both evolved to digital cameras when their film camera sales fell.

I been watching Nikon's likes and dislikes on U-tube. on the z6 and z7I am not a pro. 1 card slot, weak battery, adapter needed for lens use . Would like to hear from UHs

Seems to be a basic misunderstanding about lens adapter. It ALLOWS the use of many existing DSLR lenses on a mirrorless design camera. If you buy the new lenses designed for the new camera the adapter is not needed.
With all the expensive Nikon glass already sold, Nikon had to make it obvious what can be used in order retain those customers.

I don't think that Nikon is listening to it's photographers, both pro and consumer. The DF, and I have one, was never the camera it should have been and we all hoped it would be replaced with the one we wanted. It is a good camera but not the great one it could have been. The z's need better autofocus, better buffer speeds, 2 card slots and a lower price to really hit the market. They should certainly be lower than Sony's to get into a market they have ignored for 3-4 years. They have lost all sense of marketing which may be the Japanese and may be just Nikon.

Perhaps the Z is just like the Df, they are Japanese. The D850 is Thai.

Interesting considering Nikon plans to make 20,000 units a month and Nikon has orders from consumers for 40,000 units. And this fact is already a week old so the number of orders could be close to 60,000. So much for the "lost sense of marketing". Facts speak louder than opinions I guess.

Could you imagine a Df with the guts and features of a D850? Or a mirrorless Z version?
