We've already had so many choices. After 10 years of mirrorless, it's just now that everyone thinks it's "legitimate" ?

That is not what is happening. It has always been legitimate. It is now deadly. All the DSLR fans have been sneering at the idea anything replacing their mirror and prism - their beloved OPTICAL viewer! But now the death knell has chimed! All the big guns have brought out their big mirrorless hardware. The death spiral of the floppy mirror has begun!

I ordered mine on day one!

Nikons stated production of the Z7 camera is 20 thousand units per month. Production started a few weeks ago and shipping is still 3 weeks away. Demand appears to be at the same level as the D850, if not higher. Nikon just stated that pre-orders already received will not all be filled with the initial shipment. That means probably over 40 thousand pre-orders placed in the first 4 days since announcement. So much for lack of sales due to one card slot!

Canon's new EOS R 30.3 megapixel fullframe mirrorless cameras spec sheet is out. Awesome low light focus ability (single point AF) at -6 EV, better than Nikon (-4 EV) and Sony(-3EV), but it falls down in many areas after that IMHO.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CAZOijAyrUJcOMWNHbjFpGq2CznrIAoN/view

I see NO mention of IBIS or EYE-AF, looks like single card slot, only 5.5 fps with AF servo. only 2.2 fps with Dual Pixel AF in Raw.
4k/30p, 1080/60p, 720/120p .
Focus at EV-6 which is awesome. Fully articulating screen will be great for vloggers.
Less battery life than Sonys. We will know more on Wednesday.

If these Canon specs are final, my take is that both Nikon and Canon have some individual features that equal or top Sony, but neither has been able to have the complete feature set to match the performance of A9, A7RIII and A7III. Two Examples: Neither Canon or Nikon has EYE-AF, a game-changer for many. Neither Nikon or Canon can shoot their full advertised frame rates with full AF and full exposure control. Sony can.

I guess it is harder than Nikon and Canon thought to surpass Sony Tech. Nikon and Canon lens owners will flock to their respective first-time fullframe mirrorless cameras, but first time buyers who compare their full set of performance and features will be less likely to choose these over Sony or even the upcoming Panasonic fullframe mirrorless. And certainly many pros will stay away from any single card slot camera for paid work. I would stay away.

Dear Canon, if your camera really has no IBIS, then your low light focus ability could be offset by camera motion blur at low shutter speeds. They have to have IBIS to compete with Nikon and Sony, right ? Cheers.

But look like it would keep Canon users from buying other brands. Compatibility with the EF lenses should be excellent with a simple adapter. (simpler than the FTZ from Nikon).

Yes Canon folks may stay at home, but maybe not if they are pros and need IBIS, EYE-AF, dual card slots, full burst rates etc. Think about all of that. Cheers

Are you sure that it doesn't have IBIS? That means Canon would have to introduce a whole line of lenses with IS? That would make their lenses less competitive.

BebuLamar, I hope it has IBIS, but there is no IBIS listed in the specs anywhere. It would be really unthinkable to have this camera without IBIS, but that could happen. Canon has never made any fullframe camera with IBIS, so maybe the costs to do that, and add it in would have made the price of this camera too high. I guess we will know for sure on Wednesday. If they DO have IBIS, then that will help this camera greatly. But if there is no IBIS , IMHO it sinks this camera for anyone other than Canon lens owners or vloggers, which granted is still a large market. Cheers

For all those who think any negative review is by folks just paid by other camera companies, listen here to Tony and Chelsea Northrup to know the truth of their impartiality and see early video clips when they used to criticize Sony, before Sony listened and improved. They aren't paid and accept no free gear from anyone. BTW Chelsea's main camera right now is a Nikon D850. Cheers

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/canon-eos-r-officially-announced-claims-to-have-worlds-fastest-autofocus-system/

Canon PROS:
– World’s fastest autofocus
– Full compatibility with existing EF lenses
– A cool adapter with drop-in filter (see this cool video by Caleb Pike)
– The new EOS-R lenses are focus by wire and have an extra customizable ring
– The new EOS-R lenses are stunning (50mm f/1.2 and 28-70mm f/2.0)
– It has 10 bit 4:2:2 output just like the Nikon Z
–$2299* for the body only. It will also be sold as a body-and-lens kit with the new RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens for $3399*.

Canon CONS:
– lack of IBIS
– single slot card
– Low battery life: 350 shots
– The EOS R does have eye-AF but only S-AF. (info via Jordan Drake)
– It uses the same “Old” 30MP sensor from the 5D IV (with more phase detection pixels added)
– The cool lenses are expensive: RF 50mm f/1.2L at $2,299, the RF 28-70mm f/2L at $2,999
– Roadmap doesn’t disclose what lenses we can expect
– The dial on the left is just an ON-OFF button
– Canon will not be opening up the RF mount specs to third parties (info via Jordan Drake)
– No AF-C in continuous high drive (slower FPS compared to Sony cameras)
– Still a huge ass crop in 4K recording (1.6 crop). Looks the same as 5D IV. Heavy rolling shutter as well. (info via Jordan Drake)
– 1080p does 60fps and not 120fps
– no compatibility with their EOS-M lenses

What do you Canon folks think about this? What do you Nikon and Sony folks think ? Is anyone excited to buy this, or will you stay with your present brand and cameras?
