I finally remembered WHY I chose Canon over Nikon when I switched from Olympus years ago....National Geographic. I’ve subscribed for years, and they always have an add (photos included) toward the front of the mag - even the digital edition still does. I knew Nikon and Canon were to two biggies, so decided on Canon. Seems Nikon reins king at least on this site, but I’m a Canon guy through and through. I’ve got close friends who shoot Nikon, so I get a chance to use one every now and then - going to teach my grandson to shoot on a Nikon, since an older was given to me - my oldest Canon is still too heavy for him. So, gonna start there. Not trying to bias him. Which one you choose is a personal decision and both are great tools for great results.
I’m on 3rd Canon DSLR.
I agree it seems the majority of the world shoots Nikon. I actually got my start using Olympus cameras, but since they were rather the underdog (but I really like them) I switch to Canon have more of a “amateur professional” line of photography equipment.
Im currently running the 6D, I could never afford cannons the top line equipment, the ones I’ve had in the past, currently the 6D, before that the 7D before that the 20D. Being that buying into a particular brand is a true investment, once you go there, you’re most likely not going to jump lines due to the cost of the lenses, accessories etc.
I’ve only done a few paid photography jobs, which has been three weddings so far. That’s about the extent of what I really like to do with photography. I’m more of an outdoor, landscape, abstract type of photographer. I love the mountains, so end up spending a lot of my time shooting some well-known areas, national parks, etc.
