I have been shooting Canon for about 20 years and really like most of their products. I really like this forum but hope there are more Canon people out there to post about things. I have learned a lot here but most things are about Nikon.
I live in Hawaii so have amazing nature around me to shoot constantly.
I look forward to hearing from some like shooters.

Welcome. There's plenty of Canon shooters, most are typically out creating images rather than worrying about replacing one camera with a marginally improved version with or without a mirror ...

I’ve been a dslr shooter for over 20 years myself. Started with OM but opted for a change to Canon many years ago, just never went with Nikon. Been through the 650 (film) 20D, 7D and now the 6D. I’m staying put. Love FF

The fundamentals of photography and digital photography don't care what brand of camera you use. Light is light and aperture, ISO and shutter speed all work the same way regardless of camera brand.
That being said, most of my camera gear is Canon but I also own Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony.
My first SLR was a Minolta and my first Canon was an AE-1. My first digital camera was a Sony. Still works.
Welcome to the forum...

There are a lot of us out there! And some, like myself, are from the "breech lock" era. I own both "crop" and FF cameras.

Most of my family owns Nikon - it really doesn't matter, though, as the camera itself as CHG Canon stated, is really just a tool The best sensor in the entire universe is the one that's about 2-3cm behind the viewfinder. We, as photogs, almost always show some concern with the equipment used, and almost all of us suffer from a certain level of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Your don't often see a couple of house framers look at one another's work and say "I can tell you used a DeWalt saw and not an Old Milwaukee". Never had a client - or relative, for that matter, indicate the wanted to work done only with Brand C or N or S or F, etc.

All that said, most of the "for sale" ads here on UHH are for Nikon equipment - much more than Canon. However, that may change when the new mirrorless comes out! LOL

If you watch long enough, you'll see the waves. The 80D, 7DII, 5DIV and the 100-400L II releases produced a good deal of churn in selling used Canon equipment. We're still in the wave generated by the D500 and D850 models as well as the regular confusion caused by Nikon's alphabet soup of AI / non AI / motor / non motor / AF-P confusions of which lenses work on which models below the top tier of the product line.

For around 14 years, I've used Canon DSLRs: 10D, 30D (2x), 50D (3x), 5D Mark II, 7D (2x), 7D Mark II (2x)... and a few other Canon DSLRs from time to time.

Also a couple Canon digital point-n-shoots (G5, A640).

And I have a bunch of film and vintage Canon: EOS-3 (2x), Elan 7E, T80, T50, New F-1, AE-1 Program (2x), A-1, F-1n, FTb QL, Canonet QL17 GIII (4x) and couple others.

But I also have a number of vintage Konica, Leica, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Zeiss, and others. Please don't hold it against me!

It is quite interesting how it seems like a lot of the folks on UHH are Nikonians (we don't hold it against them, either).

The most recent market share for "system cameras" (incl. both DSLRs and mirrorless, as well as all sensor formats):

Canon 49.1%
Nikon 24.9%
Sony 13.3%

The remaining 12.7% is split among Fuji, Pentax, Leica, Panasonic, Olympus, etc.

Hi,

I shoot with Canon as an amateur, but serious, wild life photographer. What do you shoot with?

I'm a Canon shooter as well. Interestingly, during my short time here (under a year), I've found UHH to be pretty balanced between numbers of Canon and Nikon DSLR users. Of course there are a growing number of Sony, Fuji, Panasonic and Olympus mirrorless users here.
