8 Mb is marginal for Lightroom. Check your HD see if you have excessive temp files, etc. Delete them and see how much space is left.

Now, to to www.crucial.com and enter your system mfg and model #, see what the max RAM for your mainboard is and order it. You will probably have to replace what you have to get a matched set. If you're not comfortable poking around in your computer's innards, a computer store or whatever could do it.

I have always advised that 16 Mb is minimum for Lightroom.

Lightroom 6.14, standard previews (tried 1:1 also), don't import dups checked. (but tried it with that unchecked...no change)
It's fascinating to me that it limits me to just three filmstrip thumbnails, the rest grayed, and that I can actually work through all of the imports by going to full frame and advance with the direction arrows. BUT....that only works in the develop module, not the library.

just found this article on the adobe forum

it indicates that a bad monitor profile can cause this error and that windows 10 updates often install bad monitor profiles it suggests profiling your monitor with a hardware calibration device (which we should all be doing periodically anyway)..

Issue Solved??
I noticed that the photo count was not showing up in main folders because "show folders in subfolders" wasn't checked. Once I made that change, LR seems to be functioning normally again! Why? escapes me. But at least, for the moment, all is well.

Thanks for the link...that was exactly the problem I was encountering...fortunately I didn't have to do a monitor profile...just click to show subfolders and now all is well.
