Manual is where you control the triangle. Light meter is not included in the triangle. But without a light meter of some sort, you will be using an educated guess at the settings. In other words, a light meter is very useful but not included in the triangle (Iso, f stop,shutter speed).

I shoot sony a mount and even with old canon lenses it's still impossible to shoot fully manual. after I set the camera to M , set the iso and apeture. centering the pointer on the ev scale gives me the proper shutter speed. then it's back to camera assisted.
