Nikon gives a 90 day warranty on their refurbished equipment. On the other hand, Canon gives an entire year warranty.

Most of the responses are opinion, so, yes...just buy the refurb! I only buy used and refurb and hsve never, ever hsd an issue.

Got a refurb Nikon body and have shot over 60000 frames on it in a little over 2 years with no issues what so ever. Before that another body did the same for me it was also a refurb. By the refurb lens and use the saved money to put gas in the car and take some pics with it.

I have bought refurbished cameras from Canon with no problems whatsoever. I cannot say why Canon offers a shorter warranty period like Nikon.

But I speculate that it might have something to do with the close going over that a camera receives when refurbished. A human being will have scrutinized the camera with an eagle eye. So a buyer can put more trust in the product. And of course, the original warranty has already been invoked. No doubt, both Canon and Nikon have devised an equation on business principles for offering refurbished cameras to gain a profit.

Screamin Scott has hit on what I consider to be the realistic bigger picture. All copies of every lens are as individual as a group of people. The most thorough lens review I have seen used ten new copies for their testing. Their analysis showed several to be barely acceptable if not questionable, while most of the samples, even thought quite different, were relatively acceptable, with one or two being clearly superior. So when I get a lens, new or used, my biggest concern is what the copy I get will be like. We all put a lens through its paces to confirm one way or another if we like what its doing, so 90 days seems ample time to make a determination if there is an issue.

There are a few companies that offer their own one year warranty on Nikon refurbished equipment. However, it must be understood, the warranty work, if done by their one year warranty, is not Nikon repair, but their selected company who does the repair. If it is within the 90 day warranty period, Nikon will do it.
Now, the hard part, many new Nikon lenses come with a 5 year warranty. With old manual lenses their was little to go wrong. It is not the same with new AF lenses. Their is a lot of electronics in them and they are a lot more complicated than the older non-AF glass. So, if my intent is to use a lens everyday for years, I tend to buy new 5 year warranty glass. If, on the other hand, if I buy a lens I will use little I tend to look at Nikon refurbished first. I know, even past the 90 days, I can still get Nikon to fix it if something goes wrong.
Now, for the hard part, once Nikon came out with a new 70-200 FL, the question comes how long will they make parts for the older versions of the 70-200's. Once Nikon stops making repair parts for it your last step is finding a company that has the parts for it.
As for me, I usually do not hold onto my everyday use lenses more than 5 years. Some I continue to carry if I use them little. I plan to replace my 200-500 in two years because I use that lens everyday hard, so for me once that 5 year warranty is up, I will buy another lens with a fresh 5 year warranty.
So it comes down to a personal decision on what you want and how much your going to use it. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Never had a single issue with any refurbished lens or body I purchased from Nikon. If Cameta has what you are looking for, they will add 9 months to the 90 days. Nikon may offer extended warranties but I am not positive about that.

Suntouched, I have purchased a D750 from Cameta but never had any issues with it other than the paid for by Nikon shutter recall. It did have a 2000 shutter count which surprised me. My purchased new D750 from B&H was also recalled at the same time - no issues ever though with either camera. I have bought Canon refurb G15 & G16’s with no issues. I have purchased a refurbed Nikon 70-200 f/4 direct from Nikon but had to return it because it had some type of etchings inside the lens. The lens was perfect except for that but I never placed it on my camera. Nikon gave me a refund without issue. I’ve looked at that same Nikon 300mm lens as a refurb but personally I would buy it new and get the 5 year warranty. Good luck!

When I bought my factory refurbished 7DII, the warranty was for 1 year. The same with all the other Canon stuff I had bought. I only buy refurb.

I have bought my camera and 2 lenses from KEH you get a 90 day warranty but for very little you can get an extended warranty. A great deal.

I am with you on refurbished. To me refurbished is fine but for 10% then no. Nikon lenses have 5 year warranty and cutting it down to 90 days it's kind of very short. I bought the Nikon 20mm f/2.8 AF-D at a local store. It was a store display and had been in the store for several years. I got it for $256 and yes it has been used by the customers going into the store and tried it. Nikon treated as new purchase and with the full 5 year warranty. After over 4 years the diaphragm got sticky and I sent it to Nikon and they fixed it for me free of charge. I had the full 5 year warranty and the price is significantly less than the new price. I think it's only about 60% of new price. If they were to sell it to me for 10 or even 30% discount I wouldn't buy it.
