Not sure why folks keep quoting Canon policy when the OP is using Nikon and isn't likely to sell all her Nikon stuff and go to Canon. I'm a Canon user so no bias toward Nikon here. Both are great products.
Because, while the example she used was Nikon, the statement she made was generic.

Just sayin'
The 10% was the sale . The normal refurbished price was above $269. The normal new price was $309. Thanks for the math.

I should have been a little more clear.

Still a good deal.
I thought it was a good deal, I was a little broke at the time and was able to pay for it with pennies from a huge penny jar I had. It took me a whole weekend to roll them. The next lens I bought was a Tamron 18-400 . I was in Best Buy talking to a salesman, he knew I was interested and when I started to leave he said He would give me 10% off. That combined with 12 months no interest on a Best Buy credit card made me get it. I had been obsessing over this lens for a while so I was really happy. They even delivered to my house in less time than I could have picked it up at the store.
"The refurbs been actually tested and calibrated."
I am an enthuiastic purchaser of refurb and used, but how do we know this? Are they actually "tested and calibrated," a time and labor intensive process, or are they just inspected? I keep seeing posts with these statements, but like everything else on the net, I never see any evidence that it is the case.
