Very good. You knew something that most of us didn't.

I have seen the Mustang evolve since the mid 1960s. First one I saw had a 289 cu in V8 engine. It was a good engine. A High School Classmate bought a Mustang when he came back from Vietnam in the early 1970s. He got all the female dates in the neighborhood with that car. A current neighbor of mine owns an all black 2017 Mustang with a 5.0 engine. Nice. Ford, really nailed it when they introduced the Mustang. https://jalopnik.com/ford-just-made-its-10millionth-mustang-1828196854
I have seen the Mustang evolve since the mid 1960s... (show quote)

My first car was a light metalic blue 1966 Ford Mustang with a 6cy engine and a 3spd manual transmission. It was a fun car, and it helped me win the heart of the love of my life, Marybeth. She lost her battle with heart disease four years ago, but two years ago I bought the car in the photo posted here. She is a 2012 V6 with a 6spd manual transmission, and her name is Marybeth.

Good for you that you bought that 2012 Mustang. It looks great. Enjoy it. A V6 engine should give you better gas mileage than the V8 engine.

It does, and at 305hp that is more than the original Shelby.

I remember the car chase in Steve McQueen's movie Bullit. It was a 1968 Mustang vs a 1968 Charger R/T. If you own a Mustang, and have never seen that movie, you missed something. That movie had to increase sales for both the Mustang and the Charger. The Charger was no slouch with its 383 cu in engine. However, the Mustang was the clear performance winner in the movie. Or perhaps the driver of the Mustang. Steve McQueen, was the winner?

I had a black 65' Mustang convertible with a white interior and top.
It had a straight 6 with a 3 speed on the floor. A dumb s__it blonde plowed into me from behind
while putting her lipstick on and it was bye-bye Mustang. That was when I found out
Mustangs were built with a "uni-body" construction (no frame).

My first car was a 1954 Mercury Montclair. What a piece of JUNK! My next car was a 1958 Mercury station wagon. Another piece of JUNK! Many years later, I gave Ford another chance. This one was towed in 3 times while it was still under warranty. What a piece of JUNK! 3 strikes and they're OUT! Over the years, I've had excellent results with Chrysler, GM, and Toyota vehicles. No more Ford products, EVER!

Yep. FORD, Fix Or Repair Daily

While going to college, married and with one child, I stupidly bought a new '66 Mustang, silver with 6 cylinder and automatic, about $2400. Had to sell it about a year later, couldn't remotely afford it, and the silver paint was already peeling in places

If memory serves me right, the Bullit Mustang had a 390 ci high performance motor in a light car. The Charger is a heavy car and the 383 was not an outstanding performer. More like out standing in the field, looking around at all the big boys play.

That slogan is now obsolete. Ford Trucks, especially the F-150, Tauruses, Ford Rangers, Mustangs, Fusions, and the Ford Focus, are very reliable vehicles. Remember Chevy's Vega? That was a total lemon. Needing repair almost daily. And, the Chevy Corvair wasn't exactly a great car either. I owned one of those headaches. A 1961 model.

I really wasn't sure what engine was in the Bullit Movie Mustang. I looked it up, and you are correct. It was a high performance 390 cu in engine. I would say the Mustang had the edge on that one. Too bad that Dodge Charger didn't have the 426 cu in HEMI engine?

Not to change the subject but that's probably the most repeated line ever when people talk about cars that they have owned. "I Should Have Kept it". The car I should have kept when I was in high school was a "56" Chevy Bel Air 283 cu.in.
I had a '64 Chevy Impala back in the day. Couldn't get rid of that piece of junk fast enough. I had to have the engine AND transmission rebuilt at less that 50K miles. Even after that it still had problems.

I can't think of any car I wish I still had but I wish I still had that Honda Valkyrie.

I remember when the Mustang first came out back in 1964. I wasn't much of a fan then and I'm not a fan now. Sorry. I hope I don't get beat up because of this.

I had a '71 Ford station wagon for over 20 years. The only time it left me stranded by the side of the road was when I let it run out of gas. I've had a number of Fords over the years with good results from them. Can't say that about that '64 Impala and other GM cars I had. And from what I hear nobody has "excellent results" from Chrysler cars.

Yes, I am sure we've all owned cars that we wish we hadn't sold, especially when we see those same cars rolling across the line at Mecum or Barret Jackson and fetching multiples of what we originally paid for them. A few have done better than my stock portfolio several times over!
