I have seen the Mustang evolve since the mid 1960s. First one I saw had a 289 cu in V8 engine. It was a good engine. A High School Classmate bought a Mustang when he came back from Vietnam in the early 1970s. He got all the female dates in the neighborhood with that car. A current neighbor of mine owns an all black 2017 Mustang with a 5.0 engine. Nice. Ford, really nailed it when they introduced the Mustang. https://jalopnik.com/ford-just-made-its-10millionth-mustang-1828196854

Paved the way for the Camaro, Firebird (my favorite), Charger and no doubt quite a few more.
I suppose maybe the Corvette started it all but I was to young for that one.
A classic through and through.

I had a '66 red Mustang 289 in college.
Clearly, I should have kept it.

Not to change the subject but that's probably the most repeated line ever when people talk about cars that they have owned. "I Should Have Kept it". The car I should have kept when I was in high school was a "56" Chevy Bel Air 283 cu.in.

For me, it was a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda 273V8 that I should have kept. Best looking car I've ever owned.

My first car was my 1966 Mustang, 3 speed, 289 V8- bought used in 1976 for $500. My dad in the 50's to early 70's was an engineer for Ford/Philco and was on the team that designed the 289 so anything that went wrong with that car, my dad and I could fix! I wanted to take the Mustang with me to college, but my parents didn't trust the car for the 800+miles each way to and from college so we turned the car in for a 72 ford Gran Torino.

I remember that car too. I believe it had a Ford 390 cu in engine?.A hell raiser it was. Interesting, that you dad was part of the team, that helped designed the Ford 289 cu in engine. Later, the Mustang had the 351 cu in engine. The California Highway Patrol were using a few high performance 5.0 Mustangs to go after suspected drug traffickers. Some drug traffickers would drive Mercedes Benz Sedans. One Patrolman told me he was amazed how fast those 4 door Mercedes Benz's Sedans could go. But, the California Highway Patrol 5.0 Mustang was the car that could keep up with them. In fact, it's nickname was the "5.0."

I had a 1968 red mustang as my first car, loved the car and drove her to death.

Yes, that's been a very successful car. Styling and performance are important, but selling is the only thing that counts. The re-styled Thunderbird was beautiful, but because they didn't sell enough of them, they canned it. The latest restyling of the Mustang is just what the public wanted. I saw a one-hour documentary about the project.

According to the Jalopnik article "The 10 millionth Mustang made, Ford said, is a white 2019 convertible with a 460-horsepower V8 and a six-speed manual transmission."

Good choice: that celebratory 10-millionth Mustang's configuration is exactly as it should be.

So, why does Ford refuse to build and sell an F-150 with a V8 and a six-speed manual transmission?!?

One of my “should have kept” was a 1966 2+2 V8 Mustang but I won’t even mention the 1960 Jag XK150 drop-head coupe.

My first car was a 1954 Mercury Montclair. What a piece of JUNK! My next car was a 1958 Mercury station wagon. Another piece of JUNK! Many years later, I gave Ford another chance. This one was towed in 3 times while it was still under warranty. What a piece of JUNK! 3 strikes and they're OUT! Over the years, I've had excellent results with Chrysler, GM, and Toyota vehicles. No more Ford products, EVER!
