I recommend looking at Sony RX100vi, Panasonic ZS100 and Panasonic ZS200. They seem closest to your ideal, but, in terms of this ideal, each has its own shortcomings. Make you compromises among them.

Bought a used Olympus Pen-F with the small (in size) zoom lens. Used it in Europe for a 15 day trip, because I did not want to have my FF Canon be so obvious. Carried the Pen-F in my trouser pocket. Advantage is that the lenses are changeable, so I carried a faster zoom when needed, for indoor shots. Buy using the pocket camera, I would think it was a lot less obvious on crowded streets. I found that the extra features were well worth it, and my photos came out really good. Good luck with your selection. JimR

My wife and I have had very good luck with Panasonic LUMIX point and shoot. Make sure to get a model with the Leica lens.

Just a thought, Freda, but you might want to look at pocket camera's that have a viewfinder?

If you plan to use it outside on bright sunny days the viewfinder is a must. I just got a Sony HX90V and so far I like it. It is no different than any other camera in the sun however, the LCD takes a lot of enjoyment out of shooting, at least for me. Indoors is where the LCD belongs. Happy shopping.

Yea sorry you are correct, the camera is 20x zoom,and you definitely need to change to macro setting, for close ups. Still highly recommend the camera.
