I am looking to get a new pocket camera. I’m a canon user. Looking at the SX 730. Would like some advice from users.
If you're a Canon man, I'm assuming you want nothing but Canon? But, you may want to reconsider, and look at Sony or Panasonic. The quality of those two Brands for pocket cameras are hard to beat.

What size is your pocket? (And I don’t mean how deep!)
Best pocket camera out there is your cell phone.
The SX730 is typical of the tiny sensor point and shoot that is all but disappeared because of cell phone capability. Have you considered the Canon G7 X and G9 X that came out to compete with the Sonys and Panasonics?
We need to know a couple things, like do you want a long zoom capability or is that not very important? And is an electronic viewfinder important to you? And do you want a larger, 1" type sensor for better image quality/resolution and low light performance or is the smaller 1/2.3" sensor fine for you. If you give that information, we can better advise you.

For power and portability, get a Sony RX100M4.
My fixed lens "pocket" camera is a Canon G1X III. It has a 15 - 45 f/2.8-5.6 lens which is 24 - 72 equivalent due to its 1.6 crop APS-C image sensor. It has 3x zoom, 24 mpx, 2K video, 4 stop IS, EVF and LCD screen and pretty much all the features and functionality of a small DSLR and it actually fits in a lot of pockets. My other pocket camera is a Canon M50 with a EF 40 f/2.8 lens mounted.
The best pocket camera is definitely not your cell phone. It may be the most convenient but it is by no stretch of the imagination, the best. To be honest, I've rarely ever used the camera in my phone because I tend to always have a dedicated camera handy.
Most modern cell phones have replaced the need for a pocket camera. If you have one save your money and use the phone.
I purchased a Panasonic ZS200 and love it. All my other SLR camera's are Nikon.
Check it out.
Try shooting birds with your phone or wildlife for that matter. Even a pocket camera will give you more control and extended lens range than a phone.

I recently bought a Canon G7X and, so far, am loving it. I have had a G12 for years and like it a lot except for some of the features (shutter lag) that caused me to upgrade.
Thanks everyone!! A lot to think about!!
