Our local PD has an area set-up for these kind of transactions...I've not heard of anyone trying a ripoff there (as said earlier) onsite spot, cameras, lots of police. As for the item - sounds like fishing to me - I'd avoid it. Sunday morning there was a boatload of Nikon gear posted to Ebay by one seller, all items started out at a dollar or two, with auction ending same day (23 hr. sale), all the top lens up to the $12-16K 600 and 800 tele's I showed it to my wife, and we figured it would all vanish by noon.....was all gone by mid-day, well ahead of the auction deadline - Ebay police removed all of the listings. Someone was shot in Orlando recently in a deal gone bad (I think it was a "Let Go" deal)- in a public place - I don't remember who shot who, but gunfire was exchanged by both sides...… not my idea of a fun shopping experience.
There are only horror stories in Craig’s List. I do not believe this is a valid sale. It could be stolen , could have gotten wet or someone’s out to rob you. Look on KEH and buy a excellent used camera with a warranty. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM CRAIGS LIST.....
I'd meet him at a police station.
Yes. Also take a bridge! I think one needs a gun to just enter Dallas! (joke folks)

If I were to buy this camera which is indicated at a local location should I go with a friend who carries a gun?
Meeting at the police station with someone who has a stolen car or plates , or who has long hair and a beard then shaves it . I’m from Miami and live in central Florida and there are constant warnings about Craigslist . The worst words you can hear is I TOLD YOU SO.

Best advice. I’d do it near the entrance to a police station!
meet at police station for the sale, that is what the police recommend in my area.

I have detailed most stuff already. The location is in the Dallas, TX area. The lister phone number is Houston, TX area. There is no email and only a phone number and I contacted the seller with no response. I guess because I want to do the transaction in person.
That's like asking how long a piece of string is. You will get many opinions but in the end you need to do your own search. You can get a lot of info. from these replies (including mine) but this is just part of the search.
You usually don't have to worry about the seller but the buyer. A friend of mine sold a camera to a guy that could not figure out how to use it and ended up stalking him for a refund.
I believe I just saw this same camera on Facebook. If you have to ask if you should take a friend with a gun, doesn’t your question sound pretty stupid?
I can just see the courtroom trial now for you and your packing friend. “You thought you needed a gun to buy a camera? Why did you even go to the location if you thought something was wrong?”

I live just on the SW side of the county. I know well this area. Without reading all 4 pages of replies, have you had contact and asked about the source of this device ?
Who is the seller ?
Ask for the serial number.
IF no reply, forget it.
I agree with the others, if it sounds too good to be true, it is, there is a catch.
