I would suspect the camera is stolen or it does not exist and this is sucker bait to lure you into a robbery. RUN! Be afraid, be very afraid.

Just for kicks and giggles, I wonder what would happen if you (and your 6'6" 275lb armed escort) showed up to a meeting with a laptop, and, after you had seen the camera, you opened the laptop and politely said, "Looks like a great deal. I'll pay you just as soon as I check this serial number against the stolen camera registry." - and, oh yes, have your companion between you and the door.

If YOU were selling a camera on craigslist and the buyer showed up brandishing a gun, what would you think?

We can carry gun here in TX. But my idea was to have my friend at a distance and the gun is concealed. Any way he didn't response to my text message asking to meet him. I said I only do the transaction face to face and not via mail or anything like that.

Oh if he shows the camera I would certainly check for stolen serial number on the spot. If you're legit are you offended by it? I don't think so.

The reason that I consistently recommend the local PD lobby is that, if something does go wrong, things can get nasty really fast. I don't want any collateral damage. And while we're on the subject of PD lobbies, let the receptionist know what's going on and if anyone is accompanying you. If you have an armed escort, tell him/her to stay outside the building! And, for heaven's sake, don't touch a weapon unless a life is imminent danger. You don't want a shootout between the good guys while the bad guy gets away. Alternate weapons: A cane or walking stick, pepper spray or (believe it or not) bolas.

Better yet at a branch of your bank and have the bill of sale notarized while handing over the cash. I purchased a van and did this with confidence seller was happy to get a $5k cashier's check.

If I saw someone arrive with a gun, I'd lock the door and call the police! Where do you live?! EDIT: Okay, I see it's Texas, where carrying a gun isn't unusual. Still, if you think you will have to shoot your way out of a camera purchase, maybe you should reconsider. Is meeting strangers in Texas really that dangerous? The seller is probably worried about who will show up.

Meet in a neutral, public location. I recently bought something in a Starbucks parking lot. No, it wasn't an expensive cup of coffee. : )

A police station is a popular recommendation.

This sounds like advice for drug dealers - except for meeting at a police station. : )

I see he posted it on a site that has a peace symbol in the web site tab, so he's probably okay.

As for the recommendation for meeting in a public place (as I made myself), I wonder if that's a good idea. If he's a "bad guy," and things turn ugly, would you really expect members of the public to step in and risk their lives? If most people in Texas are armed, as someone else said, I'd be concerned about all the possible shooting. UPS sounds like a good safe means of delivery.
