I am peripherally involved in the industry, and still have many friends in it. Again, I disagree, respectfully.

There are many true journalists, reporting on facts. Too few media sources that aren't controlled by ratings and corporate profits.

đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť. Also, newspaper photographers took accurate photos rather than the misleading crap sent in by the public from their cellphones.

Wrong , because they DO care!

The public, which means YOU, doesn't care.

You have no idea of whether I care.

It’s very sad as I too am currently working as a photojournalist (41yrs and counting) I’ve seen the industry change over the years and not for the good! Back in the day we covered all events in an unbiased manner, now, not so much! The internet has killed newspapers, that along with unbalanced reporting! Ive covered everything from presidents to kindergarten graduations. Been to 7 national championship college football games, (485 games in total) now they’re getting pix of the games from the university photographers to save my salary, travel, meals etc. Ive been religated to grip and grins...! Im a couple of years away from retirement and am hoping my paper lasts that long!!!

For instance, I covered a republican rally during this past election where it was standing room only, packed to the gills, two and three deep aling the walls! The story said it was a “small crowd”. On this past Friday I shot a democratic rally where 36 people showed up, the story was written by the same reporter as the republican rally earlier! This time he wrote that the democratic rally had a “large crowd”. I have no part in the deception and called the guy on it, my editor says it is the reporters observation on the size of the crowd....

The continuous noise from the current leadership - "fake news" etc. whenever a story is out there and frequently in the words of the complainer accurately describing what has happened, the noise from the peanut gallery is to condemn the media. This is classic demagogue behavior. It is sad that print media is disappearing due to mostly the internet destruction of prime revenue sources (fewer ads, no classifieds, etc). Journalism is the only resource to inform the public about what is going on with government and industry. Autocratic governments eliminate or censor journalism first in their rise to power and sometimes even kill journalists. I fear that this will happen in the USA ( is this MAGA?).

When fed a daily diet of CNN, MSNBC, The NYT, WAPO, ABC, CBS, NBC, Facebook and the like, a person’s cognitive ability is obviously affected negatively.

You got that right! Television news seems to be more about presenting personalities and pretty faces than about the nitty gritty news. One exception - PBS.

Agree completely! Just like NY Times who's
motto is
"ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS WE PRINT"
Difficult to find the truth these days. Radio / TV no better

Worked for a newspaper as a photographer after college until I realized I could have flipped burgers for more money. One of the clients with an ad agency hired me and took me out of my misery and ultimately had my own large studio for 15 years. Was fortunate when a very large film developing company decided they wanted a studio so I sold out just before digital hit the market. Still enjoy my smaller studio and free-lancing for a few magazines.

Just my opinion, YMMV.

I miss the days when I scanned and skimmed over a dozen newspapers for over a dozen slants from which to distill a better understanding of an event. Two papers had a distinctly differing editorial boards for their morning vs afternoon issues. Photographs were (and still are) crucial to helping determine the distinctions.

The loss is the equivalent of cutting off the senses that provide the connections to our environment.

I am not sure who said, "The safest place is a rubber lined four-by-eight room. Next step, is burial in a vault." The image is extremely frightening to me.

I totally agree. It's easy to blame someone else. Capitalism is what it's called. They are in business to make money, which is OK. If you are not satisfied tell them with your money. As long as YOU accept their practices THEY will continue to do what they need to do to make money without changing. NFL is best example. Tired of the kneeling during the anthem? Ever refuse to go to a game because of it , or get up and walk out or even turn the TV off. As Einstein said (paraphrased) if you don't change your behavior don't expect the results to change.

Add to that the monopolization due to shrinking ownerships of news sources.

And the second step is the destruction of education centers that promote free-, and self-, thinking.
