B&H, Amazon, and Best Buy are giving expected delivery dates in the next 5 - 10 days. They are no longer saying Pre-order. Best Buy states I can pick one up in my local store on August 1.

What can you expect? The Nikon CEO stopped by UHH and read that the DSLR is dead. He had no choice but cut the production schedule way back.

The next new toy will be Nikon's Mirrorless Camera.

Is Nikon perhaps too busy designing the new mirrorless and its lenses?

You nailed it, Nikon has been working hard on their new mirrorless camera and that slowed D850 production for sure. The D850 and new Nikon mirrorless likely share the same basic image sensor, (made by SONY BTW).

And then there will be a lot of barely used D850s for sale cheap.

I dont think Nikon will have to lower the D850 price, there are still DSLR diehards that will pay good money for that camera. We shall see soon, once their fullframe mirrorless is officially announced on August 23 whether folks will dump their D850 and go with the new Nikon mirrorless, giving you a cheaper used D850. One thing for sure, Nikon will have had to address the D850's terrible video auto focusing. Any fullframe mirrorless camera has to have great video autofocusing to compete with Sony. Cheers

NO!
They are not a one man operation. Figuratively speaking

For some reason it seems that only the US has had slow delivery problems while the rest of the world has the camera on store shelves.
I suspect the shortage has been because of something more fundamental, like maybe a monumental screw up by Nikon USA. I'm pretty sure US dealers buy from them, not Nikon Japan. It could very well be that the amount of interest (and ability to purchase) was greatly underestimated by Nikon USA. Manufacturing would have had X percentage planned for the US based on sales forecasts by N.USA and that percentage of production is what we've been getting until now, when maybe the actual volume of sales is being caught up with

Somehow I believe it could be a skillful marketing strategy based on the various consumer habits. They created a heck of a demand and probably speculated that US consumers would feed on the hype and get on waiting lists.

I sure wanted the 850, but got tired of waiting. I am a Canon shooter, have lot's of different lenses, so it would be a costly switch. But anyway, Nikon made the decision for me, I was going on an Alaskan cruise/land tour, so I decided to sell my 5DMK3 and buy the MK4. I got some great pictures, so I am good for a while. I could have gone with the 5DSR but chose not to for the 5DMK4 features. Maybe I should have waited, but the deed is done
