Bravo to the Brits! I thought the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in London tonight were absolutely the best I have ever seen and I've been watching them since the 50's! Classy, colorful, entertaining and incredibly well organized! A most impressive event that the English people should be very proud of! I loved every minute of it!

I enjoyed it tremendously!!!!!

Well, Paul is getting old. But old friends are nice to see too. The rest was spectacular.

our Head of State has enough of a sense of humour to join in, at age 86! Would Barrack Obama have allowed this seeming "loss of dignity"?

#1 the queen with James Bond was outstanding.
#2 yes! anything to look hip and get a vote

My younger son was one of the performers. He rehearsed for three months beforehand. Never let on what was going to happen

Hands down, in my opinion, the most dramatic lighting of the Olympic flame was the 1992 ceremony in Barcelona when the archer shot a flaming arrow into the caldron to light the flame.

I'll say thanks to you - I enjoyed it too though it made me feel rather homesick.

There is a real difference between the two presentations.
The Chinese displayed technical adeptness and stunning visuals to promote and show what China can do. The mechanized movements of living beings reminded me of ants in a hill all working together. There was little if any humanity in the show.

The English presentation was about and for the English people. Their story from the prehistoric times of Glastonbury Tor to the modern world. The English steadfastness and penchant for invention that has been ongoing for 500 years come full circle to tell the story of island country that brought civilization and education to more than half the world. For without the English to lead the way out of the mires of ignorance the world would be a very different place.

This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in a silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England...

[Richard II, 2.1, 40-51]

I suggest you read the Wikipedia article about George III. It is long, but balanced and very informative.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_III_of_the_United_Kingdom

He was not the person imagined by most Americans.

i am a brit and thought it was fantastic sat through it all with my 21 year old son who also thought it was gr8, and then McCartney bolloxed the end ! being a pink Floyd fan was well pleased to see the Olympic park lit up to Dark-side of the moon by floyd but then straight after was hey Jude getting dragged on and the start of the song was a total mess up also, it took a little gloss of it in the end but all in all for a country that aint got a pot to pee in we did a gr8 job except for the beetle of course, lol !

Well Ithought it was bloody marvellous and how many heads of state would have joined in a sketch as the queen did?

the Queen of England playing a acting role for the opening was well a shock for such conservative Royals but it was a buzz to see !
