Bravo to the Brits! I thought the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in London tonight were absolutely the best I have ever seen and I've been watching them since the 50's! Classy, colorful, entertaining and incredibly well organized! A most impressive event that the English people should be very proud of! I loved every minute of it!

I agree...too bad most people don't know the significance of the Gastonbury Tor and I didn't here any explanation from the banal reporting on NBC.

To be honest I was a little disappointed with it. As a Brit. I could follow the thread of the program, showing GB through history, to present date. However I am sure that many, many people from around the world would not have understood what was happening. In addition, some themes were far too protracted in my opinion. Nevertheless it was well presented. Thankfully the rain kept off.

I agree with jolly roger, as a brit i didnt understand the concept in the beginning, lack of history knowledge, but on the whole it was an amaizing show. The best bit for me was Mr Bean, Rowan Atnson, couldn't stop laughing.

Go Team GB. And a big good luck to eveyone else.

Well Ithought it was bloody marvellous and how many heads of state would have joined in a sketch as the queen did?

I thought it was great, --- the Queen, Mr Bean, the music, the historical development thru the industrial revolution, the pastoral scenes at the start and before , which is so true to the english countryside. Absolutely great, but why oh why roll out that aged beatle who could never sing and still can't - in fact he ruined the whole thing. hey Jude only sounded good when the crowd sang it!!!!! Then of course we were 'magnificent losers' as usual after all the hype!! Hey ho its great to be British.

I found it astonishing that Sir Paul McCartney is still singing so well. I went back to my memory bank in 1960's when hearing him sing "Yesterday" on the Ed Sullivan show. That's when it hit me...Damn,
I'm old too!!! But, I enjoyed it immensely and can't wait to see more events from Jolly Old Engalnd! Now, my 11 year old daughter (I was a late bloomer) wants to go visit and meet Alan Rickman!

Cheers to the UK!!!

I didn't watch it.. The whole Olympics thing has become too commercialised not to mention expensive.. like the Eurovision song contest... with each country trying to outdo the one which hosted it the last time. Cynical ? You bet.. We are up to our armpits in debt and there must be better way of spending our money.

It was quite the spectacle, and always enjoy when you have an incredibly large group of people doing a production, and they pull it off. At times I don't understand some of the things they focus on, like spending so much time focusing on the health service, that from my understanding is going broke at this time. At times the shows get so 'artsy" that unless you really understand the culture and background, you miss the point, like the French presentation years a go. Did like the flame, and the mountain with the flags on it. Nice touch. Has anyone seen pics of many of China's venues from just 4 years ago? They are in a shambles, overgrown, and unused. Found that very interesting.

Well, being a true-blue Aussie, I think the Sydney Olympics were better! Is it possible I COULD be a little biased? Maybe! (I did enjoy the Queen and Mr Bean!). Actually it was all wonderful!

My younger son was one of the performers. He rehearsed for three months beforehand. Never let on what was going to happen, they all agreed to keep it secret, which worked very well. We will have to wait until we see him so that he can pick himself out from the crowd on the recording we made. All I know is that he was in the Industrial Revolution bit, and was wearing a shirt and trousers (pants to you Yanks!) with braces (Suspenders, ditto!).

We thought it was fantastic, but perhaps we are biased?
