"Thank you for your service" is inadequate. Thank you for your sacrifice. Anybody who serves makes a sacrifice, and those from the Viet Nam days sacrificed more than more than most.
Have a brother MIA/KIA carrying an injured solider back to his lines from a Death Camp they liberated in North Vietnam. They were only 50 feet from their lines when he was shot and could not carry this person to freedom. Those were the only two that were lost in this operation.
