I, for one, am sorry you changed your avatar in response to that very unhappy hogger. Sounds almost like a nut case to me. I was also verbally attacked here by a creep who said my avatar made me look stoned or high, can't remember which. My "shaming" was public. I would never change an avatar as a result one miscreant. Besides, in a lifetime of bad photos, my avatar photo was the only one I ever liked! And I don't have a dog or cat right now, either.

Katydid,

That's pretty awful! But I'm pretty sure he didn't get very far with that kind of attack. It's a great avatar and a nice pic of you to boot.

I only changed mine for my own pleasure (and maybe a smidge of vanity, it does make me look better) - but I did wonder whether anyone else thought the old scruffy one was amusing or just indicated scruffiness and general incompetence. Apparently not.

Putting someone on your ignore only shows everyone that you cant take the heat and should stay out of the kitchen. I on the other hand love to see what the others are saying bad about me. I enjoy them giving me the chance to poke my pointy stick in their eye.

For a time I posted my avatar a photo of my cat Casey. I got called out by someone who asked why don't I post my own photo of me? I did, but I am of the position that you can post whatever you want. And if someone does not like it, bully for them, they can ignore to their hearts content. Personally, I would not care less. It is the photos that I present on the forum that matter. Although, I like the dapper you.

Point taken. I grabbed a quick, one-handed snapshot in a mirror for the purpose of creating an avatar, parodying the famous self portrait by a photographer I can't recall. It's not exactly a demonstration of photographic skills, but at least it covered most of my face. Here are two better shots, although they do reveal more of my old and ugly mug. Should I switch?

It’s your avatar.....don’t let some troll dictate and make you change it to meet his approval...I’m sure he wouldn’t be crazy about mine which was shot with an iPhone in my office......

My avatar is a pic of my 2008 Corvette that I bought in 2007 when I retired. I guess some Ford fans could “Ignore” me too, grin. Remember to always stop and look both ways at the “Troll Crossing”. You just can’t make this stuff up! I too vote for your second picture with the hat, VERY dapper. JimmyT sends

Look at it this way - I would like your 'correspondent' to put ME on their ignore list. I would not want to get future evaluations of a posted picture(s) from such an attitude. So he (sorry to say it's most likely a guy) would be doing me an immense favor.

Yeah, that's how I took it, too. No loss.

But I did want to see if other Hoggers thought that a cheesy snapshot avatar automatically disqualified them from offering advice on anything...
