I received this message today, from a user who just put me on their ignore list. I have never interacted with this person before in any way:

Maybe I am seeing your picture wrong??? But its hard to take advice from someone who is holding his camera in that way. Totally wrong way to hold your camera unsupported like that, one handed. Since your picture is so blurry also, maybe I am just not seeing the photo correctly? This is just such a rookie mistake.

Point taken. I grabbed a quick, one-handed snapshot in a mirror for the purpose of creating an avatar, parodying the famous self portrait by a photographer I can't recall. It's not exactly a demonstration of photographic skills, but at least it covered most of my face. Here are two better shots, although they do reveal more of my old and ugly mug. Should I switch?

As I see it, an ugly mug is an ugly mug. Change it if you want. Don't change it if you want. My avatar isn't even me. It's a shot from a glass elevator as it descends. No one has complained about my ugly mug yet.

Leave it just the way it is. Pay no attention to the holier than thou maroon on the other side of the internet. It looks just fine to me, I mean it's an avatar for crying out-loud.

I think that is hilarious! Especially from someone you don't even know, and to then put you on their ignore list is adding insult to injury. Heck I wonder what they would think of my tulip? Anyway, you look very handsome in both pictures (much better than the avatar), personally I'd crop the top one from the bottom, we really don't need your arm. The second one is very dapper with your hat, but for the uneducated, is it Micky Mantle, Micky Mouse, or another Micky that I'm not familiar with? I tried to click on it to see if there is more, but it won't let me.
Now for your question, yes, I'd change it. Personally, I like the dapper photo with your hat.

Don't give it a second thought!

Unless you really want to.

At the Mickey Mantle elementary school, Manhattan. And no, I'm not a Yankee fan, but was there with a pal who was and still is.

It was Jackie, Newk, and Duke for me! (Brooklyn Dodgers, for those who don't know...)

Personally, I wouldn't give it a second thought. This individual has a very narrow point of view and could be missing some very valuable information that you are providing.

If you want to change your avatar change it. If not, don't. Taking a look at your avatar it does look like you are covering up a portion of your face. As for the two suggested one's, crop the lower portion of the first one for it really doesn't add anything to the avatar; the second one makes you look quite dapper.

Geez what has happened to our society? There have been times as a pro when the necessity of the other hand hold was necessary. A little cumbersome I admit but that time it was necessary. I wonder if that person ever attached his camera to the bottom of a tripod post to get in tight on a very small clos up photo. That would look like you don't know how to use a tripod but in reality you are using the tripod very well for a very tight micro shot. If it isn't conventional use of things are we then considered stupid? I think not. Duct tape may not have been invented then. Same thing would go for super glue. Please sir use what you feel is good for you and ignore the critics unless the critics can give you real advice and real criticism.

I heard that "dem bums" (Brookline Dodgers) moved to a foreign country some years ago, somewhere west of here. Since they no longer are a NY "home team", I gave up on them.

Don't sweat that "person". They probably think that photography is an exact science. Personally I can't wait until they post something of their own ... then let's "Make 'em FAMOUS!" with some of the pithy critiques only "Hoggers" can supply.
On another note ... I have some good friends who live in Kennebunkport ... Names are Brooks and another is Brooks-Griffiths. We've been wanting to see them and that part of the country for some time now.

Some actually think they are making a statement by putting others on their ignore list. Maybe you inadvertently hurt their little feelings unintentionally. Their loss!
