Hard to say what the circumstances are. Perhaps someone needs money really fast. Or the photographer died and spouse wants to get rid of the accumulated hobby stuff a.s.a.p. in order to move to a smaller place. This happens more often than you may think.

Concerning the phone number, my mobile phone number happens to be from a state different than where I live, so it may mean nothing at all. In my case, I bought my phone elsewhere and never bothered to change it to a local number. And some people move and don't change their mobile number to reflect their new residence simply out of practicality.

That is true enough about Cell numbers. A friend of mine moved from Hacienda Heights, CA to Henderson, NV, and he still has the same 626 Cell number. I own two homes in CA and have my Cell number associated with the home I am not actually living in. I live in the 909 area code but my Cell is 805 and actually 220 miles away.

I shop around on craig's list and often see posted from cities a Nikon D850 for $1000, I'm sure it's a scam. As far as the phone number is concerned, my son has a cell phone number he got in Michigan and still has even though he has lived in Texas and now in Florida

A new one costs $3,000, so you're right to be suspicious. See if you can get some info about it. I wouldn't be concerned about the address and phone number. People have houses in different places, go on vacation, visit friends and family.

Better still, have him arrive in a SWAT van.

You probably remember the old days of longshoremen. That was before cargo containers, when individual boxes were loaded onto and unloaded from ships. There were lots of "damaged" items that never made it to the warehouse. : ) Switching to cargo containers must have saved companies millions of dollars.

You’re right to be very cautious, of course. I don’t know if they do it down there, but many local PDs up here have a transaction space at the station house where people can exchange items under the watchful eye of a surveillance camera. I wouldn’t do the transaction except in person and with a serial # to check.

If it is to good to be true, it usually is.... as the adage goes. All I can say is, check it out before you buy. Oh, BTW, as for phone numbers, I moved from California with an 818 number and I now reside in New Hampshire. I kept the 818 number because it was WAY to much to change everything...printing new business cards, contacting 40 years of friends to tell them of a new phone number, etc. As long as i can keep my phone number, i will keep 818.....
