About three weeks ago, after much consideration and trying out a Canon M50 and three lenses, I returned them and and purchased a Sony RX10 IV. (It was recommended by several UHHers, for whom I have the utmost respect) So today, my wife & I took a beautiful ride on Old Mill Road that parallels the Delaware River as it meanders through the Gap area. Perfect weather and a wonderful ride. So, what equipment did I take? Canon: 5D MIII, 7D MII, 2 L lenses, Flash, :Tamron f/2.8, 17 - 35, Sony RX10 IV, monopod, Nora (my wife). My addiction to the L lenses and 2 DSLR's is worse than heroin. Are there support groups or clinics I might attend? (Forgot to mention 2 iPhone 7 Pluses and just in case, a older Canon G9) HELP!

I'll post a couple of photos after processing.
Thanks for your support!

Oh yeah. Been there, done that.

We’ve got an XC-90, so there’s room for tripods and lighting equipment too.

You never know what you’ll find along the road! 😜

Andy

PS: My wife is my shooting partner, so we’ve got at least two bags on every road trip.

Tell your wife to hide your big cameras, in a place you'll never find them. Under no circumstances should you try to find them, put a tracking beacon on them, or even try to borrow a big camera - use the Sony for 100% of your photography, and use it every day for the next month. This should result in a successful intervention. You will have to retrain yourself with the big cameras when you start using them again.

Yes, that is funny. When I go away for a few days, I always take way more than I need - and regret it.

Your advice was given in jest, but it is good advice and would work.

My trick was to buy a Sony a6300 shortly before a trip to Europe where most of the scenery would be urban and luggage space was at a premium. For two weeks I had no option but the use the new, lighter camera with the kit lens plus one other (16-70). Now, it's easy to grab the Sony if the primary purpose of my outing is not photography. Of course for our next trip to the Grand Canyon, the big camera bag and L-lenses are coming out in full force!

Upon waking this morning, I found two armed Wells Fargo Guards with AR 15's huddled over my photography equipment which was housed in a steel cage. I attempted to follow the vehicle, but after several rounds were fired, I decided not to pursuit the truck. Looks like I'm left with my iPhone and the Sony. No doubt my wife's doing. Did you call her Gene? Having serious withdrawal symptoms.

I never have disagreed with you before, BUT, their is no addiction worse than a heroin addiction. Thank your lucky stars your addiction is camera's. One of my kids worked at a heroin addiction center one summer, he came out a changed young man (for the better), it really effected him deeply.
So, thank goodness for camera addictions, and, I am also likewise effected, and proud of it. And, there is nothing wrong with a camera addiction. Like Bob Dylan says, "you got to serve somebody, it may be the devil, or it may be the lord, but you gotta serve somebody." Me, I serve photography, and many other things.

You need to see a therapist, and quickly. You can take his/her picture while you're there. LOL
Just kidding of course.

You can't just go cold turkey. Next time you and your wife go for a ride take all the gear. It will make you feel good.

BUT ONLY BRING BATTERIES FOR THE SONY!

OH YES! We can haul five grandchildren and still have room for two large Billingham bags, two tripod sacks, and a lighting setup. Winter or summer, and haven't yet found a storm we couldn't plow through. We love this vehicle.

Sorry, Bill. It was in jest. I hope I have not trivialized a heroin addiction. I experienced serious depression in 2010/2011 caused by tearing two discs in my back and the excruciating pain treated with Percoset, Oxicodin, ... My depression became serious and life threatening. Ultimately it was treated with 35 sessions of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT ). My apology.
