I did Budapest to Amsterdam with my big camera & lenses. If I were to do it again I would take a bridge camera like the Nikon P1000.

I just returned from a river cruise and I took what I always take, A Sony HX90V and a Sony RX100 2. These are pocket camera's I can carry in small belt pouch's. Makes life very easy. Watch for pick pockets everywhere, carry wallet in front pocket and leave your passport in room safe. DSLR's are a prime target for pickpocketeers. My pocket Sony's are secure in belt pouches and are great for walking tours. I get great shots with both. However, I use the 90V about 90% of the time as it has a pop up viewfinder and a 24-750 mm Zeiss lens that I can enlarge up to 20X30. Travel right, travel lite. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I went on a Danube cruise a couple of years ago and took D300s and D700 bodies and my FX zoom lenses: 17-35 f/2.8; 24-70 f/2.8; 80-200 f/2.8 and a 50mm f/1.4D.

Since I am weight conscious I limit myself to 1 full frame Canon body, and Canon F2.8 24-70 lens, Canon flash, Op/Tech crossbody strap, 4 128GB memory cards, rocket blower, lens cleaning supplies, 1 spare camera battery/charger, 4 + 4 spare AA eneloop flash batteries/charger, 2 micro-fibre cloths, small/strong flashlight, spare dime store reading specs, rain sleeve, and place it all in a small (six-pack) size soft-sided insulated cooler with shoulder strap that doesn't scream steal me. When I go ashore I take three or so pre-moistened lens cleaning packs, a lipstick lens brush, Canon body, and Canon F2.8 24-70 lens, Canon flash, Op/Tech crossbody strap and rain sleeve, and 1 spare 128GB memory card. After a few cruises I find that I seldom find that I NEED to take more stuff along. Have a great trip. JimmyT sends.

If you have an 18-200MM with your crop camera, you have all you need. My wife has a D810 and travels with a 50MM and 24-70MM Nikon lenses. A couple of odd filters. I use an iPhone. I do have a D610 that I very seldom take on river cruises or on vacation. I hate to "shelp" things around on vacation.

I also have a cropped sensor and a full frame camera but when it comes to traveling light I take my Olympus mirrorless with a couple of lenses.

May I ask, which lens/es did you use most? How did you make out with night shots?

I went for three weeks last summer to London, far northern Sweden and Iceland and carried a Nikon D7500 with a 18-105 3.5-5.6 DX lens and a 12-24 1.4 DX lens. The combo worked very well and was lighter weight than my full frame body and lenses. Although I rarely used the 12-24, I was glad I had it for the wider angle in some places. I carried the kit, along with raincoats and other daily outing necessities in a fairly small shoulder bag. We used primarily mass transit, busses, boats and the Underground and it worked very well.

On my tour, I took a D7100 with an 18-200 lens and found the . I agree with rgrenaderphoto that the shore excursions had more photo ops than the views from the ship. I would not take a tripod or monopod.

Watch out for pickpockets, while in Metz we were approached by a man asking for change of a €2 coin, while looking for change I noticed a gold chain hanging from his hand ,I looked at my wrist to discover my bracelet was gone,I never felt him take it ,he was very good,I snatched the chain back from his hand and he rang off before I could belt him,I got my chain back ,plus I still had his €2 coin .

I always take the Canon 1:2.8 24/70 mm and a small "MeFoto" tripod. That works great for me and I can walk around all day. I usually clip the tripod on my belt when not using it.

I am a photographer. I carry camera equipment with me where ever I travel. I just flew back last evening from Mexico. I had D D850, D500, Tripod (small carbon), Nikon 200-500, Tamron 70-200, Nikon 24-70, Tamron 24-105and a Sigma 15-30. This is the least I have ever taken. I will not do that again. I will take more.

On my Amsterdam-to-Budapest cruise, I used a Sony A6300 with two lenses. A 55-210mm for shots from the boat and a 16-70 when ashore. Worked great. Felt no need for another lens. Also, carried a Sony RX100m3. I used a table-top tripod a few times. Some photos at: https://www.gopeterg.com/Travel/River-Cruise-2017/ . Be sure to capture the sunrise from the bow. You'll have a great time.
