ART LENSES. AS GOOD AS ANY ..........

....... straight out of the camera with no post processing

Excellent results there, no question about it. Resolution
and edge quality looks terrific.

But "...EXPOSURE, COLORS ,DYNAMIC RANGE ... " are
something I would hesitate to credit to optics as those
are greatly due to electronics ... sensor, imaging engine
and the camera's default processing even tho you didn't
add any post processing. The electronics' contribution is
also looking terrific, IOW very fine camera, but there's
lens qualities AND there's camera qualities shown in the
images. The same lenses on an inferior camera will not
produce the same " ... EXPOSURE, COLORS ,DYNAMIC
RANGE ... ". Clearly, you've combined top shelf gear for
BOTH SIDES of the "imaging equation". But hopefully
no one is misled to expecting a miraculous new life from
any definitely lesser camera by springing for a new lens.
You gotta deal with the whole system like you did.

Agreed, the lens-camera combination does matter. I get equally as good colors, dynamic range, sharpness and clarity whether using Sigma Art or my best Sony G-Master lenses (sometimes better IQ with the Sigma Art). Just wanted to confirm that Sigma Art Series lenses take a back seat to NO top lens series for outstanding IQ. Cheers

Understood.

I use fairly modern but not state-of-the-art bodies,
20 to 24MP models, recently displaced by minorly
upgraded versions ... and these cameras make no
greatly obvious distinctions between respected old
film era lenses and my few very up-to-date lenses.
You'd hafta pixel peep to see differences. In "whole"
pictures it's not really noticeable.

My point is, there's plenty of gear in use similar to
mine, whose users are happy with their big prints,
etc etc. But ... BUT ! ... this is a user population
that might be looking for some kinda visible tweak,
some hoped-for improvement despite their already
more-than-satisfactory results. Maybe they love
their uncropped results but cropping proves to be
too much for their best efforts. Whatever. Point is
that this is NOT a user population that can simply
ante up for Art, GM, etc lenses to improve on their
"croppability" or whatever limitation they "suffer".
Our basic gear doesn't seem to benefit from "super
glass" and I fear the marketing pressure by lens
makers would rather that no one in our population
be aware of that. IOW, I'm just the "voice in the
wilderness" being it up ... but I do bring it up !
