What’s the difference and where are each used and best suited.

Are you referring to the Sigma Artisan lenses? If so, they are top notch, fast lenses. Most folks refer to them simply as ART lenses due to the name.

I would read some reviews before purchasing. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART apparently has very fast autofocus however autofocus consistency is not very good. I ended up purchasing the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens. I read that the engineers traded off some focusing speed in favor of autofocus consistency. It has less than 4% outliers. All of Tamron's new SP primes lenses have vibration compensation, a metal lens barrel, and are fully weather sealed.

I don't know which Sigma ART lenses you're looking at. Just read reviews and possibly rent first.

I have tested some of the Sigma Art lens series since they came out and they are exemplary for the money. Excellent quality, solid, and very good clarity. But, at least when compared to the best Canon "L" lenses, they fall a bit short.

It's just a advertising slogan, they really do not differ from other lenses!

What CO said.

Bought it for Nikon and was so impressed I bought one
for Canon/Sony. Most of my lenses are far from state of
the art ... no problem for 95% of my ideas. But it's good
to own a really stellar lens or two, and this is definitely in
that class. Is it best in class ? In that class is no need to
pull rank. An Olympian is an Olympian regardless of who
got the gold medal that year. If some other top shelf 50
tests out a point or 2 better, feel free to pay the several
hunnert sheckels for the difference. In my case it would
be several hunnert sheckels TWICE !

As to the less common FL of 45mm, I find the difference
is basically meaningless, but in a pinch it's easier to crop
10% than to back up when there's no room to back up !
IOW safer to hedge on the short side of 50mm. Also, it's
apparently a Distagon type, already much bulkier than a
typical Gauss type 50, so the 45mm FL is prolly reducing
the size just a bit. I'm happy that it's not 10% bigger :-)

It's an astounding lens in every aspect except bulkiness.
All its peers should be quite ashamed of their prices, and
acoast all its peers are even bigger :-(

Thank you. Too many people misuse apostrophe’s. Grammar is not dead!

Art lenses supposedly are the pinnacle of the Sigma third party lens line. If you google "Sigma Art lenses" you will find a trove of information about them. They buy their glass from outside vendors who meet their price and specs. They also outsource their lens components (many lens manufactures do that now days).
I have always preferred OEM lenses. I used to do photography for a living and sometimes I was asked what equipment do I use. My answer was, "I use Hasselblad, Nikon, and Canon equipment and lenses". I was never asked an additional question on equipment.
Some folks here swear by Sigma Art lenses. But what I have found interesting is that "they always mention they are CHEAPER than OEM equipment BUT have the same or better quality". I find that a very interesting and telling statement. You will find that for every product their is a buyer. It all comes down to personal taste, I find OEM equipment works very well for me and have never (over 45 years as a professional photographer) let me down.

The future of Sigma's Art Lenses are very good. I think they are on the road to be the #1 third party premier lenses manufacturer. Perhaps already? Sigma is now making quality full frame E-mount lenses for Sony's mirrorless cameras. When you can produce quality lenses for Canon, Nikon, and Sony mirrorless cameras, you have done very well. Canon's "L" lenses, and Nikon's "Gold Ring" Lenses are great lenses. But, they are generally more expensive. Sigma's Art Lenses are sometimes as good, or better than the Camera Brand Lenses. There is one on this forum, who uses Sigma lenses on his Nikon D850. I'm wishing for a Sigma Nikon Mount 85mm f1.4 Art Lens. A heavy one too, and not cheap either. Rated as one of the best portrait lenses. Based on reviews.

They are just Sigma's top prime and short zoom lens line. It's one of three lines in Sigma's Global Vision marketing approach. The term ART has no other meaning. The ART lenses compete well with the best lenses made by other manufacturers, and are often less expensive.

Yes, really, English please. I keep seeing "Lense" and instantly think "French", "German". I have photography books going back well before I started doing photography in the seventies from the forties and I never remember seeing this alternate spelling before joining UHH.
