And how do you think colored people and minorities are treated in this country? Where do you live again? What reality?

Apparently, they are treated a lot better here than in the countries from which they come. Why else would they want to come here?

Your bleeding heart is showing.

They come here for $$$

Your ignorance is really showing. When someone from Mexico comes in to the US, they leave behind OTHER LATINOS. They are treated no worse at home than how whites treat each other here.

I bet not, because he wouldn’t know anything about that. They are here, lots of them, but they look just like him so it is no threat to him.

Tell that to the victims of Dzohkar Tsarnaev

I meant that he would not feel threatened.

Otherwise you are 100% correct, in fact anyone anywhere is a potential victim. People driving vehicles can use it as a weapon. Or anyone in possession of a knife, or fork. You are not safe anywhere.

My god there is a lot of insanity here in this discussion. But then again there are waves of insanity sweeping the nation and circling the world. Without mentioning immigration or any administration, let me point out that by virtue of being in UHH, we are all self avowed photographers. With cameras, cell phone trackers and facial recognition everywhere, that puts all at risk of being auto loaded into the database of CCT's (Camera Carrying Terrorists). Do you really want to be loaded into a government database with YOUR face, YOUR name, YOUR phone linked to the word TERRORIST all because you take photographs? I doubt if many of you UHH'ers are terrorists, but do you, regardless of your political leaning, really want to be in that database as a potential terrorist, possibly measured by the size of the lens you carry and where?

If you were to tell the kid I was in the 1960's many of the things that our government routinely does today in the 21st Century, there was a word for it - Communist. Or NAZI. That is what our US government back then taught us in the schools that the EVIL Communist and Nazi regimes did to their enslaved people. FACT.

They always say that the greatest danger in fighting our worst enemy is that we become just like them.

We might already be there.

They come here for many reasons besides the opportunity to earn money - political oppression, discrimination, crime, domestic violence, primitive living conditions, poor health care and many other legitimate reasons. Some (like my brother-in-law who came from England during the Korean conflict) have even been willing to join the armed forces and put their lives on the line to earn U.S. citizenship. My brother in law's choice in 1952 was join the Army or go back to England.

To be fair, some come here expecting a handout. They might feel at home in places willing to support them on welfare. But we already have enough of our own lazy people here getting government checks who are able but unwilling to work or go to school.

As for ignorance, you once again forget that a large proportion of the population south of the border do not consider themselves Latino but descendants of the indigenous population that predated Columbus. They are no more happy to celebrate Columbus Day than most of our own Native American population.

To disabuse you of the notion that I am prejudiced, where I grew up half of my playmates had dark skin and/or nappy hair. The races mixed nicely. But that island went from about 40% black in 1959 to about 60% black today. Just like here, black people were prominent in music, the arts and sports but not in management or the government. That has not changed in six decades despite the socialist promises. Incidentally, the indigenous population of Cuba has virtually vanished thanks to the Spanish so don't feel excessively guilty about our European ancestors' version of ethnic cleansing.

Maybe you should get down off your soapbox and do some reading on the subject of migration and racial and cultural diversity. You don't seem to be very well informed.

The one who is trying to cast the immigration question as a racial issue is you, not me. I am looking at it from a totally different angle. Maybe you are the one who is prejudiced.

Ok, so let’s be very fair. Most and I mean most people who come here do so to be productive and law abiding citizens. That includes all the non whites, light brown to dark black.

I mean how many non whites do you know who are taking advantage of the system?

As far as me being prejudiced, am I not the one who is defending the minorities? Lol!

I see what you are trying to do here, so this will be my last post to you on this topic, but I will include one picture for your entertainment and show you what real Oregon is like.

As far as cultural diversity is concerned and your assumption about my ignorance, here is some info about myself that you have no way of knowing.

Grew up in Eastern Europe, lived in Western Europe, Australia (both coasts), LA, New York, DC, and now in Oregon.

My best friends over the years come from: Liberia, Jamaica, Ivory Coast, India, Bangladesh, Guyana and PR.

May not be diverse enough compared to you, but trust me, I have experienced variety.

A person should never ever be judged based on his or her color.

Both senators and 4 of 5 representatives are Democrats. Hillary won by about 10 points. That says most of Oregon is liberal.
