Looks like the Department of Homeland Security has started a new campaign that essentially links photography and terrorism. Stand by for loss of common sense with both law enforcement and the general public. Link to the Petapixel article in next post.

Maybe we should all call and report all the traffic cams, that have gone up in the past few years, they are watching us almost everywhere we go.

Oh for pete's sake. This is nothing new at all. It's just something to let people know they should be aware of what is going on around them. The truth is that if someone was intent on using a camera for bad reasons, they wouldn't even recognize it if they saw it.

However, as you pointed out - it can be taken to an extreme.

I was at Ellis Island about 10 yrs after 9/11, and i had my big lens with me. I wanted to take a picture of the Verazzano Narrows and the bridge spanning it by the same name. It's a great shot where you can see Fort Hamilton on the left and Staten Island on the right. It was later in the day, and the light was gorgeous. So I pointed my 600mm lens at the bridge, and a federal park ranger told me to stop taking pictures. I politely asked why, and he used the security risk angle. I politely and respectfully responded that my picture was hardly useful to someone trying to do something bad, then I whipped out my cellphone and showed him just how many highly detailed images exist of the bridge, the majority of which were taken from a distance much closer than the 6 miles that was between my camera and the bridge, and that even though the lens was large, it was not possible to capture anything of detail with the atmospherics and the diminishing light. I then invited him to look into the viewfinder - all he could say was "wow!" and he let me continue with my shooting. I asked him if he wanted a copy of the image, and gave him my website's url, and email, but I never heard from him again.

I have Jewish relatives that lived in Germany and Poland during that time. Trust me, it isn't even close to what was going in the 30s. However, to your point, I will be slightly political here - if we don't wake TF up soon, it will be just as bad.

This is sort of a meaningless series, as it is a proven fact that some terrorists DO USE PHOTOGRAPHY to scope out targets.

But, here is a link that was in the click-bait column that is revolutionary for photographers all over.

Trust me, it is already very Nazi like. I grew up in a communist country, the signs are everywhere. All one needs to do is to look at the way the police is allowed to treat the public. And btw, I am pro police.

Asking the citizens to spy on each other, while we are being spied on by our own government is another clue.

And lastly, just like Rome was not built in a day, neither was Nazi Germany. Let’s hope that it is stopped somehow. And very soon.

PS: my grandfather was killed by the Nazis for being a Jew.

As far as photography is concerned and how some law enforcement agencies treat people with a camera, just watch News Now Houston on you tube.

I just wonder what is Homeland Security going to do with the many tourists visiting and photographing in Washington DC.
Here in Miami I have had a good share of public places that have not allowed me to photograph. Photographing children without parent's consent is against the law in Miami-Dade county.

"Trust me, it is already very Nazi like" That is freaking ridiculous.
